THE PUB WITH ROOMS:

The Village Pub by The Pig

The Pig is one of our favourite hotel groups in the UK, so we were excited to hear the team will open The Village Pub in the Cotswolds next week. Taking over what was Barnsley House Hotel and The Boot in Barnsley, the property has been restored by The Pig’s founders, Judy and Robin Hutson, with chic country interiors. Full of English charm, the pub will welcome guests with zingy cocktails and pub snacks in the summer, followed by crackling fires in the colder months. Diners can expect British classics on the menu, like bangers and mash with onion gravy, smoked haddock fish cakes, and ploughman’s sandwiches, plus snacks like pork pies. There will also be a selection of English wines and local ales on offer. After a hearty meal,  sink into a bed in one of the six cosy and characterful en-suite rooms.

THE APARTHOTEL:

SeaSpace, Cornwall

Cornwall’s first aparthotel, SeaSpace, will open in October. Just five minutes from Porth beach by Newquay, it’s the first kind of accommodation in the county, designed for longer stays and family holidays. There are 56 self-catered apartments (all dog-friendly and sleeping between two and six), decorated in warm neural colours and filled with natural light. Each one has a fully equipped kitchen, a living area, and access to a host who can help with everything from practical queries to local tips. Guests will also have access to the seriously cool indoor Miami-inspired 19m pool, hot tub, and gym, as well as five padel courts, a café and deli, and a restaurant and bar. We particularly like the sound of the 24/7 self-service larder where you can help yourself to milk, local treats and other essentials.

THE CITY BREAK SPOT:

The Store, Oxford

The team behind Hotel Dames des Arts and Hotel des Grands Voyageurs in Paris have opened a luxury hotel in Oxford’s city centre. Set inside the former Boswell’s department store and its adjoining building, 101 rooms are spread across seven floors. Interiors are contemporary and chic – some have plush velvet headboards, panelled walls, and art deco features, while others have more of muted palette and courtyard views. Restaurant Treadwell offers British classics made with local ingredients, while the bar and its adjacent fireside snug is the perfect spot for a night cap. There’s also a spa with Oskia treatments on offer, plus a rooftop spot with great city views, which will host pop-ups and events in the coming months.

THE WELLNESS RETREAT:

Saltmoore, Yorkshire

One of the most exciting openings on this list is Saltmoore, a stunning property near the North Yorkshire Moors. Set to open in September, the hotel will comprise 72 bedrooms (43 in the main ouse plus a further 29 in the nearby Beach House), as well as a state-of-the-art spa and four restaurants and bars, including a brasserie and a ‘wellness café’ serving everything from bone broth to protein shakes. Set amongst 85 acres of woodland, and just a short away from the sea, the hotel has seriously chic interiors (courtesy of Sapin Studio), with nautical-inspired palettes, beach-tones and plush furniture you’d expect at a five-star property. One of the main draws here is the spa, which will house an indoor heated pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, relaxation room, and numerous treatment rooms.

THE RESTAURANT WITH ROOMS:

Nest Farmhouse, Norfolk

Nest Farmhouse is the new countryside sibling to Michelin-starred restaurants St Barts and Nest in London. Over in north Norfolk, the restaurant is set on a 1,000-acre working farm in Docking, with a farm-to-table ethos – everything is sourced and created as locally as possible. The restaurant itself is housed in a former cattle shed and has been remodelled to reflect a chic New England coastal spot with a 40-cover dining room, sheltered veranda and bar. Open from Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner, menus will change regularly, with seasonal specials like scallops with parsley and garlic, and pork and wild mushroom terrine. After a meal accompanied by local wines, guests can relax upstairs in one of six bedrooms, filled with a mix of modern and vintage furnishings. Best of all, you can now take 30% OFF rooms booked until 28th July to celebrate the launch.

THE RELAXED BRASSERIE:

The Cardiff Townhouse

Coppa Club has opened the doors of its first Welsh location, The Cardiff Townhouse. Set inside the former David Morgan department store in the city central, the venue has an all-day bar and café, and a dining area open for breakfast through to dinner. The building’s original features have been carefully restored, with the addition of contemporary interiors and a cool decorative skylight. Food-wise, expect British and Mediterranean classics, including small plates, sourdough pizzas and pasta. For birthdays and special occasions, there’s a private dining room, too.

THE SEAFOOD BAR:

Little Prawn

Cornwall’s much-loved spot Prawn on the Lawn welcomed a sister restaurant last week. Little Prawn is a summer seafood bar – also by Katie and Rick Toogood – opposite the original outpost. Open from June to October, the bar will serve locally sourced seafood with a Mediterranean and Asian twist. Dishes include fresh crab and lobster, seared tuna with soy and mirin, and daily changing crudos, cures and ceviches with homemade tortilla chips. On the drinks list you’ll find frozen pineapple margaritas, dirty martinis, tart pisco sours, local beers, and a selection of Cornish and natural wines.

THE CHEF SERIES:

Wylde Table

Wylde Table is a new food series launching in August. Guests can enjoy luxe dining experiences at various locations around the world, when various chefs will cook their signature dishes. The inaugural retreat will take place at the beautiful nine-bedroom Duredon House, with views overlooking its private estate in Exmoor. You can stay for two nights (between 9th and 19th August) to enjoy a chef’s table experience hosted by Kate Austen (winner of the Great British Menu main course 2024 and the youngest female head chef of the two Michelin star restaurant AOC in Copenhagen), and Paddy Williams (chef patron and owner of the Kudu Collective). Guests can look forward to canapes and fizz on arrival, followed by a tasting menu with paired wines chosen by the in-house sommelier. You can also chat to the chefs throughout your stay, watch informal demonstrations in the open-plan kitchen, and forage for fresh produce.

THE PERSIAN SPOT:

Jaan, Manchester

If you watched our latest Manchester takeover on YouTube or read our guide to our favourite spots in the city, you’ll know Manchester’s food scene is seriously exciting right now. New this month is Jaan, a Persian kitchen from the team behind Another Hand. Diners can head to Exhibition, which showcases small independent names, to try its Persian-inspired dishes, like flatbreads topped with spices and dips, ras el hanout spiced lamb with cucumber labneh, roasted seatrout with fatoush salad, and bastani – a type of Iranian ice-cream layered with wafers. All the produce in the restaurant is sourced from the north, with most ingredients travelling no more than 40 miles.
