Indē Wild

Founded by fashion and beauty influencer and activist Dilpa Khosla, Indē Wild has championed conscious beauty and South Asian heritage from the get go. Its products merge traditional Ayurveda and hi-tech actives – everything is influenced by Dilpa’s mother, a practising dermatologist and ayurvedic doctor. Dilpa knew there was immense value in combining these two practices, so trademarked the term ’Ayurvedistry’ (Ayurveda and chemistry) to communicate this philosophy via her products. Heroes to look out for include the Champi Hair Oil and the Sunset Restore Serum.

Byredo

The Sweden-based fragrance house has strong Indian roots through its founder Ben Gorham. A native Swede with an Indian mother, he’s stayed in touch with his heritage. His bestselling Mumbai Noise scent, for example, draws on his travels back to India and the Toronto-based Indian community he grew up in. Today, the brand has expanded into haircare and bodycare, sourcing its ingredients from all over the world. Other bestsellers worth trying include Gypsy Water, Bal D'Afrique and La Tulipe.

Live Tinted

After racking up more than ten million views on YouTube for applying lipstick on her under-eyes as a form of colour correction, Deepica Mutyala has managed to turn herself into a name to know. The influencer and businesswoman has since created a suits-all make-up range to help women of all skin tones find what they need, including multipurpose lipsticks that work on the eyes and cheeks. The Huesticks are versatile and buildable, with a blendable texture that coats skin with moisture. Don’t miss the Hueglow either – a silky highlighter, it works on its own or mixed with foundation and concealer to give your complexion a glossy sheen.

D.S. & Durga

Created by Brooklyn-based husband and wife David Seth Moltz and Kavi Ahuja, DS & Durga offers genuinely unique fragrances guaranteed to set you apart. Ahuja’s Indian heritage comes together with Moltz’s expertise as a self-taught perfumer to create the brand we know today. The pair incorporate several of the best Indian ingredients in their fragrances, including sandalwood, vetiver, tuberose and frangipani. We like White Peacock Lily, which is clean and uplifting, with notes of jasmine, vanilla and fog. Meanwhile, brand bestseller Debaser is aromatic and woody, with notes of coconut milk, tonka and fig. Finally, try Italian Citrus if you prefer your fragrances with a musky edge.

Chāmpo

Taking the Sanskrit term for shampoo, Chāmpo (pronounced ‘shar-pour’) is a contemporary take on the ancient Indian practice of ‘cleansing, soothing and massaging’ the head and hair. Another brand influenced by Ayurveda and inspired by the founder’s Indian heritage, this UK-based label is also vegan, cruelty-free, silicone-free and offers products formulated with 98% natural ingredients. Heroes to look out for include the Vata Hydrating shampoo, which is ideal for locking in extra moisture, while the serum is perfect post-wash.

Sachi Skin

Sachi was founded by Farah Bashir – a cosmetics formulator, aesthetician and beauty writer. Having battled post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, PCOS-related acne and eczema, she created the brand out of necessity, turning to ancient cultures for inspiration. While formulating the range, she found that the options designed for traditional ‘skin types’ felt too rigid for skin like hers, so set out to design a line that embodied inclusivity for various skin tones and types.
