Product Spotlight: Pixi Glow Tonic

Promising to slough away dead skin cells and leave behind bright, baby-soft skin, it’s little wonder a bottle of Pixi’s iconic Glow Tonic is sold every minute worldwide. By dissolving excess oil, it reduces inflammation and minimises blackheads at the same time – which explains why industry insiders love it too. If you’re not yet a fan, here’s why you need to get your hands on a bottle ASAP.

What It Is & How It Works…

A liquid exfoliator, Pixi Glow Tonic first launched 1999. The idea was to deliver smooth, even-textured skin but without any stripping or inflammation – aftereffects which toners had often been associated with up until that point. Brimming with 5% glycolic acid – an alpha-hydroxy acid proven to remove dead skin cells – aloe and calming red ginseng work together to simultaneously soften, soothe and resurface the skin. Praised for its gentle approach, experts recommend using it both morning and night after cleansing to revitalise your complexion for a healthier-looking glow.

It’s also cruelty-free and alcohol-free, so you never have to worry about it drying out your skin or feeling too harsh. Instead, you’ll love how effective it is when it comes to minimising pores and blackheads – because a direct result of liquid exfoliants penetrating deeper into your skin than your average face scrub.

Why Insiders Swear By It…

When A-listers and industry insiders opt for affordable skincare over high-end buys, it’s got to be good. Pixi Glow Tonic has a legion of celebrity fans – including the likes of Ellie Goulding, Kim Kardashian and supermodel Jourdan Dunn. Back in 2012, skincare blogger and facialist Caroline Hirons also wrote about and recommended the Glow Tonic on her site. Not only did her post help put Glow Tonic on the map, it ended up selling out completely as a result. You’ll be hard-pushed to find a bad review anywhere.

Glow Tonic has exceeded everyone’s expectations. People can’t believe how it changes their skin, which explains why it became a regular in their routines. It actually improves the texture of the skin, as well as the efficacy of any serums and moisturisers applied afterwards.

How To Use It…

Traditionally, a toner is the final cleansing step in your skincare routine. Experts agree it helps remove residue from your cleanser, as well as the last traces of any dirt that may have been missed. However, Pixi’s Glow Tonic does so much more. Make-up artist Amanda Bell explains: “Because of the Glow Tonic composition, you can use it before you apply masks too, to help their ingredients better absorb. Use it down the neck and chest too – especially if you’re suffering from breakouts. If your hands are dry, try sweeping a little over them at night to prep them for any hand cream that follows. Ahead of self-tan, it can also help get rid of dry, flaky patches for seamless application. Finally, my biggest tip is to store it in the fridge, or use it frozen. Decant some into a clean ice cube tray, then, once frozen, pop it out, place it into a cloth and sweep the cube across your face in a windscreen wiper motion. Your complexion will be refreshed, smooth and glowier as a result.”

What The Brand Says…

Few products have stood the test of time quite like Glow Tonic. Still popular 20 years after its launch, brand founder Petra Strand believes its versatility is the reason why: “I originally developed Glow Tonic to be the ‘ultimate skin prep’ before any make-up, but it turned out to be a lot more than that. I always wanted something that worked fast, which is why we used glycolic – one of the smallest acids within the AHA family – so that it yielded results instantly. A big part of its popularity comes down to the fact people are happy with the results  – you can see the difference immediately.”
