FIRST BEAUTY MEMORY
“My passion for clean beauty goes back to childhood. Growing up, I struggled with my hair because the products available weren’t hydrating or nourishing enough for my texture. I decided early on I would take matters into my own hands. My mum and I made our own homemade natural products in the kitchen using oils, butters and extracts from local health stores. I discovered first hand it was possible to take simple, natural ingredients and create formulas that could transform your hair, skin and body.”
THE STORY BEHIND BRIOGEO
“My professional career started at a large financial firm in New York. Then my world changed when my mum suddenly passed away. The loss was tremendous and incredibly difficult to cope with. However, it made me see how short life is and that you should fill it with work that ignites passion and positivity. I realised I had a deep desire to make a larger impact on the natural beauty world. I started doing my own research and found consumers were actively seeking out clean and effective products, yet there was a huge gap in that market. That’s where the idea for Briogeo came from: a line of carefully crafted, clean haircare that offers solutions for every hair type, texture, ethnicity, background, and person.”

“First and foremost, don’t underestimate the power of good sleep. I do my best to get eight hours a night, so everything looks and feels more refreshed in the morning. Also, you are what you eat. It’s interesting, omegas are a key nutrient when it comes to healthy hair, but our bodies don’t naturally produce them. It’s why I launched our B. Well Vegan Supplements. They are vegan friendly and a great addition to your haircare routine. Ultimately, everything comes back to basics. Stay hydrated, eat healthy, get that sleep and exercise in, and you’ll find you can maintain your natural beauty in an easy and attainable way.”

“Never rush into launching ideas. Put in the work needed to make whatever it is you’re doing a success. You need to put energy into shaping your passion projects – this is what will make you feel more prepared to pursue your dreams. Another lesson I’ve learnt in beauty is to lift others up. I am grateful for the other beauty founder friends I’ve made and it’s important to have a community and celebrate one another’s wins. Good friends will also give you perspective when you need it. I’d love to see more of it in the industry. When in doubt, try to focus on yourself and remember there’s room for everybody.”

“When I’m in the US, I love shopping at Sephora and Ulta. They have a great mix of niche and bigger beauty brands and there’s always something new to discover. It’s no surprise I prefer natural formulas, and some of my favourite brands within that category include Youth To The People, Glow Recipe, Hyper Skin, Biossance and Shani Darden. For make-up, I like Ilia, Thrive Causemetics and Kosas.”

“I love the Kora Organics Noni Facial Oil. It’s full of antioxidants and nourishing vitamins to give you that fresh-from-a-facial glow. I use it every night with my moisturiser.
