6 Eye Glosses That Will Work For Everyone

Ever since Sofia Richie wore Chanel’s Duo Lumière Multi-Use Illuminating Eye Gloss at her wedding, the beauty world has gone mad for eye glosses. Not only do they offer a flattering, sheer wash of colour, they’re subtle, modern and easy to pull off, so they appeal to all ages, eye shapes and skin tones. And while Sofia’s Chanel one might be discontinued, there are still plenty worth trying…

Lid Lacquer, £30 | Surratt

A-list make-up artist Liz Pugh swears by these lacquers from Surratt. Versatile and easy to use, they only need the tiniest amount swept over lids for subtle and sophisticated impact. They’re not in the least bit sticky and don’t disappear the second you apply them – some eye glosses melt away at speed. The colours are sheer but easy to build up for an opaque, vinyl-like finish. From vibrant reds to rich, glossy blacks and soft taupe, there are a variety of colours available that will work on all skin tones.

Lid Tint Satin Eye, £27 | Jillian Dempsey

You’ll often find these lid tints in make-up kits backstage at Fashion Week. With a 70% organic formula, you can expect a silky-smooth texture – it’s not a powder, but not a cream – more akin to a lip balm. Just a small amount is all you need for a light wash of colour that’s versatile and mixes well with other make-up. There are several shades to choose from, including a warm, cognac red that really makes blue and green eyes shine. We love ‘Dew’ for a glow-y effect that catches the light.

Glaze Crayon, £24 | ICONIC London

These double-ended chunky pencils come with a liner on one side and a rich, glossy pigment on the other for a glazed effect. Easy to swipe on and go, they allow you to create a fun smokey eye in minutes. There are seven suits-all tones to choose from – think pearly whites, rich deep bronzers and fresh pinks. Layer up for more intensity or keep it sheer for a wet-look lid. Ideal for eye make-up novices or anyone looking to add a bit of interest to their look.

Éclat De Beauté Effet Lumière Gel Face Gloss, £20 | Gucci Beauty

We love this multi-use gloss from Gucci which works on the lips, cheeks and the eyes. It gives you that reflective, dewy finish that’s both healthy-looking and luxe, and with zero tackiness. Completely transparent, try it as a foil over eyeshadow for extra dimension or to enhance intensity. Alternatively, wear it solo for a slick of radiance that requires minimal effort.

Colourfix Glazes 24-Hour Cream Colour, £18 | Danessa Myricks Beauty

Just like Gucci’s Gloss, these can be used all over the face, but they work best as an eye-catching, glazed layer on the lids. Perfect for getting that ‘wet look’ finish, they act like a sheer highlight and can be used on top of your eyeshadow to add a glossiness to bare lids that really goes the distance. Use your ring finger for a more delicate touch and to keep the placement light – it’s easier to build up gradually when you’re using this type of formula.

Vinyl Effect Eye Gloss, $14 | About Face

The name says it all – expect a vinyl-like finish but with the shine of a gloss. Ideal for a quick refresh, the formula is dewy but never tacky and it’s so easy to apply – a little on the cheekbones and cupid’s bow ties everything together. Chic when worn alone on the lids, it also works well to enhance the intensity of any loose glitter powders or more intense eyeshadows. Just bear in mind that this one has more of a tendency to slip, so it’s worth setting it ever so slightly with some loose translucent powder.
