All The Beauty Products We Spotted Backstage At LFW

The beauty looks at London Fashion Week rarely disappoint. To find out how the magic happens, we asked Orin to go backstage and report on what the industry’s top experts had in their kits this season.

Luxe Cashmere Matte Lip in ‘Vintage Blush’ | Bobbi Brown

Any pro will tell you one of the most important skills to master is a fresh, natural-looking base. At Emilia Wickstead, skin was prepped by Eve Lom, before make-up artist Amy Conway combined Bobbi Brown’s iconic Vitamin Enriched Face Base and Weightless Skin Foundation to create a clean, glossy finish. Models sported brushed-up brows and a matte, barely-there lip – the brand’s new Luxe Cashmere Lipstick in ‘Vintage Blush’, a light-beige neutral. For hair, Soichi Inagaki used styling products by Bumble and Bumble – including the new shine-enhancing oil – to accentuate each model’s natural texture, resulting in an undone-but-elevated finish.

Spotted At Erdem

Essential Face Compact | Fara Homidi

The looks at Erdem had a delicate, 19th century mood about them, masterminded by make-up artist Fara Homidi, using products from her eponymous brand which has just dropped in the UK (and earned our seal of approval). The Essential Face Compact was used to create a soft-focus, minimalist base, likening models to modern-day oil paintings. “I didn’t want the skin to appear touched or overly worked,” Fara explained. “Instead, the goal was a velvety, perfected finish that still felt completely natural.” Lips alternated between blurry matte red and a berryish tinge, all applied with a fluffy brush for a lived-in look.

Glow Spray Serum | Authentic Beauty Concept

Leaning into Erdem Moralıoğlu’s dream-like vision, key hair stylist Anna Cofone went for lived-in texture in the form of cool, distorted waves. Deliberate imperfections and textural irregularities created by clips and plaits and spritzed with Authentic Beauty Concept’s Glow Spray Serum gave the look an undone feel, which Anna described as: “The poetry of real life woven into high fashion.” Worlds apart from her earlier jelly-slicked curves and graphic lines at Roksanda, there was a definite ethereal feel.

Firmness Roller | myBlend

After-parties and early call times are brutal on the skin, so to get models looking runway-ready, quality skin prep is key. Science-backed myBlend always brings out the big guns, including its cutting-edge LED mask, worn for a few minutes to restore glow. Another of its not-so-secret weapons is the Firmness Roller, featuring two rotating heads for a dual massage action, designed to get the blood flowing and help models appear fresher and more sculpted.

Spotted At Bora Aksu & Nanushka

My Nanna's Mousse | Larry King

Celebrity hair stylist Larry King used My Nanna's Mousse to create a luxe-grunge look at Nanushka. Unstructured waves and indentations, created using the beauty editor-approved volumiser in tandem with the nozzle of Dyson's Supersonic r Hairdryer, gave the hair a cool, unfussy finish. The hero mousse also came in handy backstage at Bora Aksu, where it was used to enhance each model's individual texture so that porcelain doll-inspired curls took on a plump, romantic quality.

Spotted At Richard Quinn

Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick In ‘Feels So Grand’ | M·A·C

Visionary Terry Barber stripped things back to ‘pure beauty’ at Richard Quinn, drawing on a whole host of different inspirations rather than one specific reference. A light nod to the supermodel era, the look felt sculpted and lifted. “We’ve gone for a ski-slope cheekbone, pushed-up brow and contoured lip,” he explained. “Timeless and elevated, but still effortless – in a way, what most people want out of their make-up.” There were two different lip looks, one combining the brand’s iconic ‘Cool Spice’ pencil with ‘It’s Personal’, a mauve-beige liquid lipstick, and the other a sharp, Helmut Newton-esque 80s blue-red

Cool Girl Superlift Volumising Spray | Hair By Sam McKnight

At Richard Quinn, Sam McKnight MBE paid tribute to modern couture with an elegant haute updo – think 60s-Hollywood-starlet meets David Bowie’s tough glamour. Voluminous, upswept French twists took centre stage, constructed by blow drying Superlift into the roots to create body and height, followed by Easy Up-Do for added texture and finally, sealed in with the brand’s Modern Hairspray to hold it all in place.

@LynseyAlexander; 111SKIN

Spotted At Tove

Exosome Face Lift | 111SKIN

Tired skin is no match for doctor-led 111SKIN, hence why it’s a regular favourite backstage. At Tove, where the fresh, radiant base and rosebud lips combo was designed by Lynsey Alexander, the 111SKIN team prepped models using the brand’s Exosome Express Facial to create a lit-from-within effect. Blending the new exosome-powered duo with targeted touch, this mini treatment was the perfect antidote to stressed-out, overworked skin.
