Why Everyone’s Loving Shearling Shoes

Where It Started
Fashion’s appetite for furry shoes isn’t anything new – Gucci was arguably one of the first to take on the trend, albeit in a more elegant way with its fur-lined Princetown mules. From there, the industry’s love affair with ugly footwear reached new heights – with everyone from The Row to the more characteristically polished Chanel producing their own take on the chunky, gauche, sometimes masculine footwear.
Why It’s Trending
In a post-pandemic world, one which has grown so used to comfortable dressing, demand for this kind of footwear isn’t all that unsurprising. Consider the rise of nightwear as daywear brands like Sleeper and Deiji Studios, and shearling shoes don’t seem so out of step – in fact, both brands have released their own pairs to tie in with the trend. Now, as the weather cools and the seasons change, it feels natural to transition with a little help from some furry slides.
The Look
Any high-end brands worth its salt now seems to be releasing shearling footwear, which means it’s only a matter of time before the high street follows suit. Whether it’s See By Chloé’s chunky clogs or Aquazzura’s coveted slides, there’s now a variety of styles on offer, with the most subtle take on the trend coming in the form of a ballet flat. Add them to a polished pair of leather trousers, or with jeans and a blazer to strike the perfect balance between smart and casual.
