The App All Wine Fans Need To Know About

Synonymous with luxury, Maison Bollinger has been creating world-class champagnes in a refined and complex style since 1829. Renowned for its traditional champagne know-how, there’s a reason the house has been going strong for almost 200 years. Now it’s launched the 1829 app, where fizz fans can gain exclusive access to all things Maison Bollinger. Here’s everything you need to know.

Created in partnership with MAISON BOLLINGER

THE HISTORY

For almost 200 years, Champagne Bollinger has been making powerful wines that focus on the aromas of the fruit in all its dimensions. Its revered taste is the result of a particular affinity for pinot noir, an exceptional vineyard and traditional craftsmanship handed down through the generations since 1829. Maison Bollinger has a storied history, but its most famous owner is perhaps Elisabeth ‘Madame’ Bollinger, who headed up the house until 1971 following the death of her husband and brought acclaim back to the house after the war.

THE APP

Maison Bollinger was created in 1829 – hence the name of its newest feature, an access-all-areas app. Available to download via the AppStore and Google Play, the 1829 app is made for wine connoisseurs who want to have exclusive experiences with one of the Champagne region’s oldest houses – from the vineyard to the cellar.

Once you’ve downloaded and signed into the app, members will gain exclusive access to purchase stock of the rarest cuvées only available to 1829 members; be able to arrange in-depth two-hour Discovery Tours of the house (which include tastings) and attend exclusive events such as garden parties and dinners; and be as up to date as possible with what’s happening in the cellar and the vineyards. Best of all, members can talk to the Maison Bollinger team directly to ask them about food pairings, new vintages and buying advice.

The app also offers a variety of podcasts, immersive videos and articles that each explore the rich history of Bollinger, details on each of its cuvées and tasting notes for every bottle. The next exclusive event available through the 1829 app will take place on 7th November. Members will be able to take part in a special live event at Les Crayères restaurant in Reims, where chef Philippe Mille will create a one-off dinner to match the House's new cuvée: La Côte Aux Enfants Champagne 2013. Members can sign up to attend on the Bollinger 1829 app by registering with the code ‘BOLLYSLUK’.

THE WINES

The Bollinger style is inimitable and recognised as such by connoisseurs, with its rigorous methods and principles handed down from one generation to the next. Its style has a dense and subtle presence which balances the intensity of great pinot noirs and the freshness of chardonnays from the Côte des Blancs. Bollinger wines release a creamy effervescence resulting from vinifying in oak barrels and prolonged contact with the yeasts – which guarantees a tasting experience that always offers something new.

Over the years, Bollinger has built its vineyards at the centre of the finest crus in Champagne. Champagne Bollinger’s 179 hectares of vines are made up of 85% Grand and Premier crus and are farmed across seven separate vineyards: Aÿ, Avenay, Tauxières, Louvois and Verzenay for pinot noir, around the Montagne de Reims for chardonnay and Champvoisy for meunier. Best of all? The house's newest cuvées will soon be available to explore and purchase on the app.
