What they ate…
Created by Damian Clisby and the Petersham’s Head Chef Joseph Fox, the afternoon tea changes seasonally. New for this autumn, the ladies dined on the likes of milk bun sandwiches and scones, plus Italian dolci of crisp cannoli and warm bombolini (Italian doughnuts), served alongside a number of botanical tea-infused cocktails including elderflower, chamomile, cardamom and rose.
Why they were there…
To celebrate the mothers2mothers charity, who train, employ and empower mothers living with HIV to bring health and hope to mothers and their families. Every day, 250 babies die from HIV, but with the right education and access to medication we can help prevent transmission of HIV from a pregnant woman to her child. Mothers2mothers currently help women in eight different countries, with 2.3m women and family members currently enrolled in the programme, and 195,000 adolescent girls and young women benefitting from m2m services directly in 2017. In fact, over 1,000 HIV-positive women were employed by the charity last year as peer mentors to other women.
How you can get involved…
There are a number of ways you can help mothers2mothers, from marathon sponsorship to attending a fundraiser to a simple donation. But holding your own Wonder Women Afternoon Tea – just like the SL team did – is the perfect chance to celebrate the women in your life whilst also supporting the charity. Whether it’s a cup of tea, cocktails or never-ending slices of cake, your afternoon tea could help support their Mentor Mothers and the clients they help. All you have to do is choose a date, sign up at community@m2m.org, and decide what cakes to make and which friends to bring.
