Splatterware may feel fresh and new but it’s been a feature of the pottery industry for quite some time. “I first saw it in Florence about twenty years ago. It originates from Italy and it makes me smile as it’s equally fresh, relaxed looking and summery,” says interior designer Penny Morrison. The process is by hand and takes time and patience, with layers of colour and glazes applied. "Our splatterware is handmade using clay, hand dipped into a plain glaze and dried, and then hand splattered, dried in the sun and then sealed in the kiln,” explains Flossie Saunders of Hot Pottery.

As well as making a statement, people love its versatility. “We love the pop of colour and texture that the splatter effect brings to the table. No two pieces are the same, making your dining table feel super special and unique,” says Amy Hemmings-Batt of Coco & Wolf. When mixing the different colours, you can create many different looks.”
