5 Interior Designers, 5 Dream Schemes
Interior designer Jessica Buckley says…
“Even for those lucky enough to have space for a study, it’s likely be one of the smaller rooms in your home. But this can be an advantage: smaller rooms are cosier and more inviting; and painting them in a darker colour will enhance this feeling. For this scheme I chose ‘Drab Green’ by Edward Bulmer – having recently used it in my own home I can testify that it’s perfect in smaller spaces. To avoid darker wall colours becoming too sombre, try adding in some lighter, brighter soft furnishing fabrics.
“I also like incorporating an armchair so there’s somewhere more comfortable to sit than at a desk all day. Lighting is always important, and a pretty ceiling light (on a dimmer switch) and a desk lamp are both non-negotiable. Sisal and jute flooring is rather ubiquitous these days, but it works well especially when a more decorative rug is layered on top. This pretty Oushak carpet would be ideal."
Creative Director of Albion Nord, Camilla Clarke says…
“We are all about mixing the old and the new, while also celebrating craftsmanship and natural materials where possible. This scheme is calm and comfortable, offering a private workspace that feels like a bit of a sanctuary. A mixture of antique, vintage and newly crafted pieces have been carefully put together and we’ve chosen an earthy colour scheme with lots of texture. Green lime wash paint on the walls and materials such as abaca, oak, cane and linen are all used here to evoke a sense of nature.”
Interior designer Anna Hewitson says…
“I wanted to create a home office that didn’t feel too formal – a space that would blend into the existing fabric and feel of a home. By adding colour, character and warmth I’ve created a room that is both practical and stylish. A small print wallpaper from Howe adds a bit of interest to the walls and it’s paired with Edward Bulmer’s ‘London Brown’ paint colour – I really like its earthy, natural tone. It’s quite grounding in an office space.”
The team at Eadie & Crole says…
“The scheme started with the bookcase – storage is very important for any workspace, particularly if you’re working from home a lot. We also wanted to create a warm and relaxing space so we chose earthy colours and textures for the walls and the rugs. Texture is also reflected in the velvet of the armchair, and the antique brass fittings work well with the design and colours of the room. The antique desk makes a subtle statement and, again, is warm in colour and practical with its handsome drawers.”
Lauren Caisley from Lauren Caisley Interiors says…
“I love using green to create calm and restful interiors – something we thought particularly apt for a study. I used Colefax and Fowler’s ‘Rushmere’ wallpaper as a starting point. I then layered this with rich cinnamon velvet, weathered oak furniture and antiqued brass accents to create a sense of warmth. Everything was tied together with faux greenery to create an elegant, tranquil space in which to work.”
