SL’s Pay Day Edit
Our fashion wish list…
The Party Skirt
We may have put a lot of sequins to you this month, but this has to be the winning piece - with its dramatic ruffle, it's just a little different to the rest. We also love that gunmetal colour, surprisingly easy to wear with pale grey cashmere for daytime. Studio 54 eat your heart out.
Sequin Ruffle Midi Skirt, £55 | ASOS Design
The Perfect Bra
Our favourite new brand discovery this month, Le Petit Trou delivers on all those skimpy, pretty lingerie pieces that are hard to find on a reasonable budget. This style, with its lace and bow detailing, is a team favourite – wear under a black blazer for that peekaboo look.
Cerise Ruffled Flocked Stretch-tulle Soft-cup Triangle Bra, £50 | Le Petit Trou
The LBD
Self Portrait can do no wrong in the SL office, and this latest velvet LBD has to be our dress of the month. With its sequined embellishment, statement neckline and dramatic ruffle detail, it has all the high-octane characteristics we've come to expect from the brand, but the black colour palette gives it a timeless feel, too.
Off-The-Shoulder Embellished Velvet Mini Dress, £320 | Self-Portrait
The Investment Bag
We wrote about the one bag you should be investing in this season and we stand by the Chloé Tess as our pick. Authentic to the brand's stellar accessories cannon, with its Western-style aesthetic and practical colourways, it's also relatively affordable as far as designer bags go.
Tess Small Leather and Suede Shoulder Bag, £1,250 | Chloe
The Trend-Led Boot
Topshop footwear is a bit of a secret weapon for us (SO much comfier than other high street competitors) and these perfectly pointed, embellished-heel boots are confirmation of just how well they do shoes. Whether you choose zebra print or black, this is how to get that Isabel Marant look on the high street.
MANE Jewel Ankle Boots, £85 | Topshop
The Going-Out Trouser
Forget your Juicy Couture preconceptions – wide leg velvet trousers are officially the 'going out trousers' of the month. We love this burgundy version from Stories - perfect with black, pale pink, mustard, jewel green....
High Waisted Velvet Trousers, £79 | & Other Stories
Our beauty must-haves…
The Use-Every-Shade Palette
We all know the drill with palettes – there’s always a shade or two you’ll actually use, whilst the rest of the pans get forgotten. Not with NARS’ new launch: this gorgeously-packaged cheek trio features a line-up of the brand’s bestsellers – the classic Laguna Bronzer, the bestselling Orgasm Blush and the universally flattering Orgasm Highlighting Blush. We’ll be using it every day.
The Orgasm Infatuation Palette, £35 | NARS
The Glow-Giving Mask
When it comes to sheet masks (of which there are hundreds to choose from), one in particular stands out – the Sarah Chapman Skinesis 3D Moisture Infusion Masks really do give you glowing skin in ten minutes, delivering an instant hit of hydration, plumping up fine lines and soothing redness. For those after a quick anti-aging fix for party season, this is it.
Skinesis 3D Moisture Infusion Mask, £43 | Sarah Chapman
The Party Make-Up Staple
No festive beauty look is complete without a touch of highlighter and Topshop’s pearlescent liquid offering – from their just-relaunched make-up line – is top of our list. You can dot on the skin to add light to certain areas, or mix with your base or moisturizer for a lit-from-within glow.
Glow Liquid Highlighter, £11.25 (was £15) | Topshop
The ‘Hangover Face’ Fix
Late nights + too much prosecco = a tell-tale puffy face in the mornings. Step in, facial massage: boosting blood circulation and reducing lymphatic congestion, it’s the expert trick to looking fresh in just a few minutes. We swear by cooling crystal rollers (store in the fridge for even more impressive results) and this small, rose quartz model is just what we need for tackling under-eye bags.
White Lotus Rose Quartz Roller-Face Massager, £46.99 | White Lotus
Our interiors & lifestyle picks…
The Perfect Pillow
Add a bit of traditional rustic charm to sofas, chairs and beds with this Ochoco cushion from Amara. We love the grey, but you can pick from neutral and white shades, too.
Ochoco Linen Pillow, £44 (was £55) | Amara
The Winter Warmer
Nothing screams cosiness like a sheepskin rug, and John Lewis’ version is ideal for calm winter evenings in. Lay it down in front of your sofa and throw away all of your socks to feel the real benefit.
Single Sheepskin Rug, £35 | John Lewis & Parners
The Modern-Luxe Vase
A suitably festive interiors buy that'll go the distance once Christmas is over too, this handcrafted vase has caught our eye. Burnished gold copper and engraving detailing provide the perfect blend of old school glam and contemporary style.
Autumnal Mercury Vase, £66 | Anthropologie
The Party Piece
Just in time for the party season, impress your friends with your hostessing skills by making them a snazzy cocktail from this vintage-style drinks trolley.
Vintage Tray Top Brass Oval Bar Cart, £1,300 | Soho Home
The Inspirational Read
Most books about public speaking don’t tell you what to do when you open your mouth and nothing comes out. They don’t tell you how to own the room. This book does. From the way Michelle Obama projects ‘happy high status’ to Oprah Winfrey’s mastery of inner conviction, Viv Groskop shows you how to harness the power of public speaking and channel it into your own life.
How to Own the Room: Women and the Art of Brilliant Speaking, £12.99 | Viv Groskop
