For me, it’s more about fashion than function. I hardly wear any jewellery, so sunglasses have become my statement accessory. They’re the one piece that can instantly elevate even the most basic outfit and give it a totally different vibe. It’s such a simple way to express yourself without saying a word.
I remember buying my first ‘proper’ pair so clearly — it was love at first sight. I was in Milan when I spotted these stunning oversized brown sunglasses from Tom Ford. Absolutely perfect. That was four years ago, and honestly, they’re still my most-worn pair to this day. They just have that timeless, effortless glam vibe to them that never gets old – and every time I wear them, people ask where they’re from. There’s a real emotional connection there too, because I associate them with such amazing memories from that trip.
My passion for sunglasses once turned into a seven-day mission. On a recent holiday in Spain, I spotted a vintage pair I loved in a local boutique – only problem was, they had no fixed opening hours. I went back seven times, even messaged them… it just wasn’t meant to be. Massive credit to my husband for driving me there every time. That pretty much sums up my commitment to finding the perfect pair.
Sunglasses are, without doubt, worth the investment. Even the simplest outfit – jeans and a tee – can look more considered and polished by adding the right pair. When the shape is right and the quality is good, they last for years too. They’re not just an accessory, they’re a confidence boost and sometimes, a whole fashion mood.
There’s something about a new pair of sunglasses that always feels exciting. I never get tired of adding to my collection. Whether it’s a fresh shape, a subtle colour shift or a bolder frame, sunglasses are a way for me to stay inspired and keep evolving. It’s not about trends – it’s about reflecting where I am right now.
Travel often sparks the best purchases. I don’t shop for sunglasses constantly but when a design really catches my eye – especially abroad – I’m in. There’s something special about discovering a pair in a new city that makes them feel more meaningful.
My collection is a balance of statement and staple. I love a bold, head-turning style but I’ll always return to those timeless, versatile shapes that go with everything. What I reach for depends on the mood, the outfit or even the vibe of the city I’m in – it makes getting dressed fun.
Aviators are a forever favourite. There’s something so cool about them – classic, slightly edgy and completely seasonless. Saint Laurent make the best ones in my opinion – the perfect mix of timeless and bold. That said, I love a good, oversized frame when I want to make more of a statement.
I don’t follow any rules with sunglasses. If a pair makes me feel good, I’ll wear them, even if they’re supposedly the ‘wrong’ shape for my face. Fashion shouldn’t be restrictive. That said, I never wear all-black sunglasses – they feel too harsh on me. I much prefer softer tones that feel lighter and more flattering.
Certain brands just always get it right. Saint Laurent, Tom Ford and Bottega Veneta are my go-tos — the designs have that effortless elegance-meets-edge I’m always drawn to. For high-street options, COS is hard to beat. Its collaboration with Linda Farrow is elevated, minimal, bold and far more premium-looking than the price tag suggests.
There are also lots of under-the-radar names I love. I really rate Kaleos, Olbia and Vehla for cool, fashion-forward options that still feel wearable. Kaleos nails that balance, Olbia leans retro-chic and Vehla has some amazing, accessible designs I wear on repeat.
Lens-wise, I always lean warm. Soft brown tints are my preference – they’re flattering, gentle and suit my style best. I’ve never really loved those orange or blue lenses that have been trending – they just don’t feel very me.
A good pair of sunglasses should work anywhere. If I love them, I’ll wear them to run errands or on a city break. My style doesn’t change much between everyday life and holidays. I want everything I wear to feel like me, no matter the destination.
There’s a Bottega Veneta pair at the top of my wish list right now. Classic shape, strong lines and a timeless feel I know I’ll wear for years.
Not every risk has been a win but I’ve had fun trying. I once bought those oval Céline sunglasses everyone was obsessed with. I thought I had to have them and the second I put them on, I knew. Not for me. Definitely a fashion fail.
If I had to pick just one pair to keep forever, it would be a Tom Ford classic. They’ve seen me through so many moods, styles and outfits — and I always feel confident in them. That’s the sign of a pair you’ll never regret.
