Style Rules With Emma Louise Connolly
My Signature Style Changes From Day To Day
I don’t define my style by one set thing, and I love the freedom to wear whatever I feel like. It’s often a toss-up between something very laidback like sweatpants and trainers, or a really sophisticated and tailored outfit with no in-between.
I Try To Avoid Impulse Buying
Instead of buying lots of stuff often, I now try to think twice and only shop for things I feel I really need. Shoes are probably my weakness and the thing I spend the most money on, and I try to avoid Zara too – I know if I go in the store, I’ll want to buy everything.
I Invest In Vintage
I love buying vintage – I recently went to Amsterdam and had to buy another suitcase to bring home with all my purchases. Toronto is also a great place for unique finds, but closer to home, head to Notting Hill and Marylebone in London for the best vintage shops.
Great Basics Are My Go-To For Outfit Dilemmas
You can’t go wrong with a good pair of jeans and a white t-shirt if you’re stuck for what to wear – I can’t live without my Levi’s Ribcage jeans, and I buy a lot of my cotton basics from American Vintage. Their pieces are great quality at a reasonable price point.
I Previously Spent Too Much Time Not Dressing For My Body Shape
This is something I definitely regret, but now dressing for the body I have is something I live by, I have learnt what suits me best and my personal style has developed as a result.
My Designer Buys Never Date
French designer brands are my favourites. I love Isabel Marant, Phoebe Philo-era Céline and Dior – I don’t know anyone who isn’t obsessed with their Saddle bag. I adore old school Prada too; their nylon jackets and mini bags are high on my wish list.
I’m Obsessed With Accessories – Of Any Kind
Investing in great accessories and shoes will always update an existing wardrobe. This summer I’m on the hunt for a great pair of tan leather sandals, and I’ll be jumping on the padded hairband trend before it’s over – I’m a huge fan of hair accessories as a way to make a simple outfit more exciting.
