5 Brands Getting Autumn/Winter Fashion Right
CREATED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NET-A-PORTER
Gucci
The most recent darling of the Italian fashion world, Gucci forced everyone else to up their game when creative director Alessandro Michele introduced street style peacock fashion into the classic label. From Elton John-inspired sunglasses to logo printed, 70s-esque suiting, the brand has fully embraced drama over the past few seasons, but it’s certainly paid off – whether it’s the loafers or a slogan T-shirt, there’s undeniable demand for every new piece the brand has to offer.
Balenciaga
It may be a far cry from the Balenciaga of yore, but streetwear designer Demna Gvasalia has breathed new life into the classic French label since he joined back in 2015. The fact the Georgian is also Creative Director of cult label Vetements goes a way to explaining the revamp – introducing unlikely street style fodder including caps, hoodies, trainers and denim into the mix has been the saving grace for the once tired brand.
Givenchy
Forget everything you thought about Tisci’s Givenchy – Claire Waight Keller (of royal wedding fame) has firmly stamped her mark on the brand this season, introducing functional, grown-up pieces into the roster of edgy black leather and It accessories. We love the new heritage feel to the label -pussybows, herringbone prints and monochrome layering pieces all bring a refreshingly sophisticated feel to the label.
Miu Miu
Perhaps the only brand in the mix that hasn’t undergone significant shifts in management over recent years, Miucci Prada’s label is still producing hit season after hit season under its founder. The brand consistently keeps up to date with the latest trends whilst still remaining true to its core designs; for Autumn/Winter, that means western-leaning dresses, tassel-trimmed knitwear and pearl and bow-adorned accessories.
Calvin Klein
Look no further than Calvin Klein to find the source of this season’s ubiquitous cowboy trend. The stateside label has always relied on its American heritage for design inspo, and this year ankle boots, western-inspired shirts, plaid and gingham have catalysed the prairie-meets-rancher look. Raf Simons only took the helm at the brand last year, after a short but sweet run at Dior, and it seems his magic touch is already working.
