Best Dressed: Fashion Awards

London’s Royal Albert Hall played host to the Fashion Awards last night and the iconic red carpet did not disappoint. Here are our best dressed…

Who: Viscountess Emma Weymouth

Wearing: Celia Kritharioti

Why we love it: Even though this dress might be more appropriate for a Hollywood bash than the more Brit-influenced Fashion Awards, we can’t help but marvel at the architectural feat of its sequin embellished body, dramatic tulle skirt and flattering corseting.

Who: Mary Charteris

Wearing: Giambatista Valli

Why we love it: This gold lamé design could easily have worked as a one piece, but the high-waisted skirt and crop top cut makes it that bit cooler. Black ruffle details add an extra flourish of drama, whilst Mary Charteris’ signature pink locks add an extra dose of rock ‘n’ roll. Plus, she rented the piece – extra sustainability points.

Who: Adut Akech

Wearing: Valentino

Why we love it: Recipient of the prestigious Model Of The Year gong, South Sudanese clothes horse Adut Akech wowed in this dramatic Valentino design. With its emerald green shade, thigh-high split and oversized bow detail, it’s a showstopper worthy of an award winner.

Who: Cate Blanchett

Wearing: Armani Privé

Why we love it: If you’re after a flattering evening dress, take your cue from Cate in this clever Armani number – with its thick belt and tulle-laden shoulders, it creates the illusion of a tiny waist. A sparkly finish adds an extra layer of femininity to the pretty piece.

Who: Alexa Chung

Wearing: Alexa Chung

Why we love it: This look is classic Alexa – a floor-sweeping, sequined evening gown with a Parisian-inspired white collar and cuffs to add an unexpected injection of androgyny. A plunging back makes it a little bit sexy, whilst her signature tousled hair grounds the look.

Who: Leomie Anderson

Wearing: Armani

Why we love it: We love the juxtaposition of a simple cut with the heavy beading and embellishment on this Armani piece. Model Leomie Anderson offsets the classic gown with a modern high ponytail, and showstopping Chopard jewels.

Who: Sara Sampaio

Wearing: Armani

Why we love it: This easily wins our best dressed of the night. Feminine, sexy, pretty, dramatic… all the adjectives do justice to this golden maxi. A bright, red lip makes everything cooler, and this look is no exception.

Who: Lily James

Wearing: Valentino

Why we love it: We’re suckers for a giant bow, and this gold creation, adorning a simple white shift dress, ticks all our boxes. It’s the simplicity of the dress that makes the oversized bow so impactful, whilst messy bed hair modernises the look.

Who: Joan Smalls

Wearing: Stella McCartney

Why we love it: Joan Smalls can make anything look good, but this one shouldered, Swarovski-embellished white dress is an SL favourite. It’s the asymmetric hemline that makes it work – the wave-inspired cut gives it a fresh, contemporary feel.

Who: Pixie Geldof

Wearing: Prada

Why we love it: This is the most easily replicable of the looks – a simple slip dress plus an oversized head band is the fashion-forward look you can get on the high street. We love the unexpected pop of red.
