The Beauty Insider: Lisa Potter Dixon’s Beauty Rules

When better to change up your make up routine and experiment a little, than in January? Whether it’s switching up the colour of your mascara or finally tackling a bolder brow look, here are my main trend predictions this year...

Coloured Mascara

Bright mascara is back and I’m thrilled. It really transforms your whole look in seconds. Now, don’t be afraid, you don’t have to go crazy, and remember that jewel-toned mascaras are usually complimentary. They suit all eye colours and brighten the whites of the eyes. Trust me, if you’ve had a late night, loading your lashes with a navy mascara will help hide any signs of fatigue. If you’re still not sure, try putting bright mascara on after your normal black one - just on the tips of the lashes. My faves are Benefit’s Bad gal in blue, YSL Vinyl couture in shade 2 and Kiko’s Jungle green mascara.

Glowing Skin

This much-loved trend from 2019 isn't going anywhere. Glowing skin is both beautiful and youthful, and it's liquid foundations which are best for creating this look. But to get a long wearing glow, it’s all about the prep. A hydrating serum and a good moisturiser are key. Apply them five minutes before you start your makeup for best results. I love Hada Labo’s super hydrator which includes four hyaluronic acids, and Milk makeup’s vegan moisturiser.  An illuminating primer is your next step. These really help minimise the appearance of pores and fine lines, as well as locking in your makeup for longer. My favourites are Victoria Beckham’s cell rejuvenating primer, a skincare and primer hybrid which looks after your skin as well as giving you a fresh, glitter-free glow. Or try Becca’s backlight primer for an even-looking base. Finally, return to a classic with Mac’s Strobe cream - an absolute icon ready to give your skin a pearly finish.

Neon

This may not be for everyone but it’s definitely one to have fun with. Try a neon liner like the amazing orange by Stargazer. Whenever I wear it, I get compliments. If neon is a step too far, try a brightening liner instead. Whether it be a navy or a purple, remember it’s only makeup, and you can always take it off.

Bold Brows

Thankfully brows are staying full and natural this year. In fact, I hope the thin 90’s brow never makes a comeback. Even if you have naturally sparse brows, you can still create volume with a fibre gel, as these mimic the appearance of real hair. My favourites include Benefit’s Gimme brow, Glossier’s Boy brow and e.l.f’s wow brow gel.

Pink Lip

Pink is the new red. Wear it as a stain by patting it on your lip using your ring finger. Or go bold by applying it straight from the bullet. If you do this, try blurring the edges slightly by going over the lip line with a pencil brush. This will give you a modern finish that’s less likely to bleed.

So they are my trend predictions for 2020. I love how fun, bold but beautiful they all are.

Enjoy experimenting, and make sure you tag me and Sheerluxe so we can see all of your looks.
