6 Fashion Editor-Founded Brands Worth Knowing

These days, it seems a background in fashion styling and magazines is almost a pre-requisite for launching a successful label. Here are some of our favourites run by former Vogue editors, esteemed journalists and experienced stylists…

Blazé Milano

Blazé Milano was co-founded by stylists Corrada Rodriguez D'Acri, Delfina Pinardi and Sole Torlonia, who met at Elle Italia. Known for its beautifully cut, luxurious blazers – all of which are handmade in Italy – every style features the brand’s signature curved ‘smiley pockets’. Trust us when we say these pieces will be in your wardrobe forever.

Attersee

The brainchild of former T magazine editor Isabel Wilkinson, Attersee started life during the first lockdown and launched properly in 2021. It focuses on high-quality, easy throw-on pieces and its ‘sculpted vest’ – a contemporary take on a waistcoat – is all over Instagram. Followers of stylish women like TyLynn Nguyen might remember its striped ‘pop-over’ linen-cotton shirt was this summer’s must-have beach cover-up.

Rotate Birger Christensen

Jeanette Madsen and Thora Valdimars met while working as fashion editors at a Danish magazine. In 2019, they set up Rotate in collaboration with the Copenhagen-based concept store Birger Christensen. Their brand is now synonymous with colourful, joyful party wear, as well as luxe athleisure wear via the more casual off-shoot, Rotate Sunday. The opposite of Scandi minimalism, Rotate is all about colour, texture and statement silhouettes.

La Ligne

Take two former US Vogue editors, add one high-fashion brand executive and you get La Ligne. Taking the stripe as their starting point, Valerie Macaulay, Meredith Melling and Molly Howard  created a brand that offered a luxe but affordable take on the essentials, like the perfect Breton top or everyday trousers. The brand has since branched out into sleepwear, loungewear and summer dresses – the navy Phillipa dress has become a fashion-girl must-have.

Sleeper

You’re no doubt familiar with Sleeper’s linen dresses. The Ukrainian brand was founded by former fashion editors Kate Zubarieva and Asya Varetsa – and today its linen co-ords, feather-trimmed satin pyjamas and diaphanous dresses have made it a resort-wear go-to for the fashion set.

Wardrobe.NYC

Christine Centenera was a street style regular when she co-founded Wardrobe.NYC in 2017. A long-serving fashion editor at Australian Vogue, she created the label as a solution to the endless fashion cycle. Launching with four and eight-piece collections of wear-forever basics including black leggings, the perfect tee, a white shirt and the ultimate tailored coat, the line has since expanded via collaborations with brands like Levi’s and Carhartt. Plus, with a brand new collab with icon Hailey Bieber just announced, there's no doubt it will be the brand on everyone's lips this A/W.
