5 Scandi Fashion Brands We Love

Thanks to the likes of Ganni and Rotate, the Scandis have established themselves as key fashion players in recent years. Now, off the back of Copenhagen Fashion Week draws to a close, we thought we’d shine a light on five of the standouts. Whether you’re looking for contemporary luxury or sustainable style, these are the names worth knowing about…

Rabens Saloner

The Brand

Founded in 2007 by Birgitte Raben, this Danish brand has become synonymous with relaxed classics and rainbow brights. Its colourful, patterned pieces have been a hit with fashion girls the world over – nothing encapsulates the Rabens Saloner aesthetic more than its natural dyeing techniques, all of which have been influenced by the cultures of Bali and East Asia.

The Show

The brand brought all the summer vibes to its SS23 show. Set against a pastel-hued decorated set, guests sat on imported Indonesian work chairs painted in mirrored chrome. The collection itself included bright flowy dresses, printed sets and sunset hues – all contrasted by blocky neutrals and boxy blazers.

The ESSENCE of Rabens Saloner is the feeling that everything has been MADE BY HEART. The garments are often handmade and hand-dyed using TRADITIONAL craftsmanship methods, which is why no two pieces are the same.

Lovechild 1979

The Brand

Timeless, contemporary luxury is what Copenhagen-based Lovechild 1979 does best. Using both masculine and feminine influences, the brand comes up with tailored yet feminine Scandi silhouettes time and again – perfect for the modern woman.

The Show

Mia Kaapelgaard's first collection as creative director included a range of wardrobe staples spanning ribbed knits to leather trousers and even matching pea coats. Other highlights included relaxed, tailored separates and a smattering of petrol blue, cerise pink and bright purple.

Skall Studio

The Brand

Julie and Marie Skall launched their label back in 2014 and have become known for their sustainable take on fashion and effortless, elegant style. Growing up near the Danish coast, the sisters agree nature is a big influence across their designs – something particularly evident in their use of natural materials such as Danish wool, linen, organic cotton and recycled cashmere.

The Show

Against the backdrop of an idyllic summer day, the show took place on the terrace of Palm House – a historic site inside Copenhagen’s Botanical Garden. Models walked to a soundtrack featuring The Beatles, Junior Parker and Nina Simone, while the collection itself is said to have been inspired by India’s ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur.

It is essential for us to support LOCAL CRAFTSMANSHIP, as well as other techniques from around the world because they have strong CULTURAL ROOTS we think are worth protecting in this GLOBALISED world.

Baum Und Pfengarten

The Brand

A cult brand on the Danish fashion scene, Baum Und Pferdgarten was founded in 1999 by Rikke Baumgarten and Helle Hestehave, both of whom played on their surnames to come up with the brand’s memorable moniker. Using beautiful fabrics, it’s known for creating memorable prints and playing with bold colours. Despite the rainbow brights, pieces still feel wearable and timeless.

The Show

The theme of the brand’s recent show was ‘time’ – which explains why it chose to revisit its most iconic pieces of collections past. Alongside hints at what their soon-to-be-released capsule collection of timepieces and costume jewellery with Danish watchmaker Skagen would look like, it also included typical signatures including flower prints, oversized styling, pinstripes, leopard print – plus, reinterpretations of the BP monogram. The colour palette marked the passage of time through the seasons, first with deep blues and black, then pops of purple and vanilla yellow, before green, cornflower blue made way for peach, pale green and tangerine.

Following the previous collection, where influences were taken from FRENCH ICONS Cristo and Madame Grès, the collection also celebrates the timeless style of PARISIAN women – famous for their FLAIR and true EFFORTLESSNESS.

The Garment

The Brand

Founded in 2020 by influencer Sophia Roe and her business partner Charlotte Eskildsen, The Garment designs timeless collections with a seasonless approach. Attention to detail is evident in the sustainable, natural and recycled materials – the quality of which is of the utmost importance to the founders.

The Show

For SS23, the audience was presented with a slightly dressier and more resort-ready aesthetic – past collections have tended to focus on a more masculine silhouette. From the opening look of a fringed crochet bra top with a matching skirt through to the sophisticated evening looks, the Los Angeles influence was strong. It makes sense, seeing as that’s where Roe designed the majority of pieces.

We’re RE-INVENTING the perfect wardrobe and catering to women who have an urge to build a wardrobe full of TIMELESS and PERSONAL content, which she can keep and RE-STYLE throughout the seasons.
