Originally known for its brightly coloured, faux fur outerwear, Shrimps’ offering has since evolved into a full ready-to-wear line, and is now one of the British fashion industry’s biggest success stories. Designer Hannah Weiland has maintained her playful approach to pattern and texture, however, resulting in quirky prints and voluminous silhouettes which feel fun and feminine.
Back By Sundown is the brain child of Jeanie Muldownie who, after struggling to find work during lockdown, created the brand to channel her passion for sustainable design. Using vintage and dead stock fabric, dresses are created with comfort and wearability in mind, so expect loose, carefree silhouettes which are just as wearable with heels as they are with trainers or boots.
Hackney-born brand Meadows’ whimsical, prairie-inspired dresses have long been an SL-favourite, and the latest collection is its prettiest yet. With both airy white styles and ditsy floral prints, the label’s easy pastoral designs – complete with ruffles and high necklines – will see you through until the autumn.
Designed in London by creative director Phyllis Taylor, Sika’s designs are inspired by the rich and diverse culture of Ghana, with fabrics hand sourced from the country’s local markets. Sika’s colourful, show-stopping pieces are all handmade, aiming not only to celebrate Ghanaian culture, but to also give back to the community by creating jobs and a fair wage for locals.
Created primarily with sustainability in mind, Seraphina’s pretty dresses are inspired by the fabrics and textures of India, where founder Fiona Hodges spent much of her childhood. Priding itself on a short supply chain and a slow approach to production, the brand’s pattern cutters, stitchers and tailors all work in the same place, under fair conditions, and with quality fabrics like cotton, linen and silk.
