12 Style Tips From A Cool Scandi Influencer

Scandi style is best described as effortless and cool. Though it often comes with a bit of a twist. My own outfits range from head-to-toe black with a trench coat, for example, to a pink poppy look with a polka-dot manicure. I decide each morning which end of the spectrum I’m aiming for, and everything I wear depends on how I feel that day.
Don’t try to combine more than two colours at once. I always match at least one of the colours in my outfit with something else. For example, If I’m wearing white flip flops, I’ll add something else in the same colour, whether it’s white trousers, a white scrunchie, or even just some white nail polish. It’s much easier to keep things looking clean and classy this way – colours work when it looks like you’ve styled them with purpose (even if you haven’t!).

When you’re building an outfit, start with the shoes. When I wake up in the morning, I check the weather app before I do anything else. It sounds silly, but your footwear is probably the most important decision if you live in a country like Sweden or the UK where the weather can be unpredictable. Once you’ve picked your shoes, you can go from there – I don’t own that many pairs, so when it’s warm and there’s no rain forecast, I’ll wear flip flops. If it’s colder I’ll wear trainers or boots.
Avoid anything too trendy. I don’t really follow trends. Instead, I’m most inspired by the people around me and on Instagram. Rather than following exactly what’s in fashion that season, I cherry-pick the pieces that feel most like me. If you do follow trends, the most important thing is that they feel authentic to you – there’s nothing worse than putting something on and feeling uncomfortable in it.

Every woman should have these five pieces in their wardrobe. First, a blazer, which is the easiest piece to wear when you’re having an outfit crisis. I have blazers in different colours and prints to reflect all my moods – you can wear them for work, a walk in the park or to a party. The second is a great sandal – I personally love flip flops, but if you’re not a fan, something simple and classic is worth having. In my opinion, sandals always make an outfit look effortless and laid back, so for me they’re a must-have. Next is a chunky ring – if I want to make an outfit feel cooler, I put on all my chunky jewellery. Get one in both silver and gold so you can create that ‘mix and match’ look. I also can’t recommend investing in a trench strongly enough – they’re timeless, chic and make you look so cool. I treated myself to a Totême trench a couple of years back and it’s still one of my favourite pieces. Finally, an oversized shirt is probably the most frequently worn item in my wardrobe. I have one in every colour and the best part is, you can wear them all year round.

A killer pair of sunglasses will elevate your look every time. I wear sunglasses all year round – in fact I’m somewhat known for the slicked-back bun and sunglasses look. I have a bit of a thing for expensive sunglasses – in my opinion, they’re so worth it because you can wear them enough times to reduce the cost per wear. They’re the perfect finishing touch to every outfit – I always match them to the jewellery I’m wearing that day, whether that’s gold or silver, so everything feels coherent.
Buying lots of clothes doesn’t equate to better style. I find it hard to namecheck my favourite brands as I don’t actually shop that much. Whenever I do buy something, it’s always something I’ve thought about for a long time. I do like Arket though – it never lets me down on quality, and the brand has such a wide range of great basics. My favourite piece in my wardrobe is a black blazer I bought from Weekday about a year ago. I've used it 100 times and it still feels new – plus, I love the way it makes every look feel chic, whether it’s tracksuit bottoms and a tank top, a skirt or tailored trousers. It wasn’t crazy expensive either, which shows a great piece doesn’t have to cost the earth.
