READ THIS DEBUT NOVEL: Surrogate By Susan Spindler
Journalist and documentary maker Susan Spindler released her debut novel today. Surrogate tells the story of Ruth Furnival, a woman who seems to have it all – a successful career in television, a lovely home, a lawyer husband and two grown-up daughters. But at 54, with an empty nest and the menopause behind her, she feels restless and dissatisfied. After multiple rounds of failed IVF, her daughter Lauren is told that the only way she and her husband can have a child of their own is through surrogacy. So, when Ruth discovers that, with the right dose of hormones, she could carry their baby, they agree out of desperation. But, as her pregnancy progresses, long-buried events from the past resurface. Isolated and alone, she starts to unravel and what began as an act of self-sacrifice turns into one of atonement – for which she's willing to risk everything.

WATCH THIS COOL PERFORMACE: In and Out By The Dutch National Ballet
Watch a special performance this weekend from the Dutch National Ballet. Performed by 12 dancers from the junior company, this performance has been choreographed by Hans van Manen with music by Laurie Anderson and Nina Hagen. Originally performed last March, In and Out is simply based on a concept of movement, colour and costume. The dancers move in and out of three large wardrobes, playfully appearing and disappearing in different groups. We love the dancer’s 80s-inspired costumes and unusual music score. If you’re looking for something a little different to enjoy over the bank holiday, this could be just the thing. The performance is available to watch online until 25th April 2021. Tickets are free.
