The Ultimate Friday Night Playlist: The Collyer Twins
The New
A good playlist needs to be a mix of new and old, classics and jams, and have something that’s going to suit all musical tastes. In their newer choice of songs, there’s Kaytranada’s dreamy new tune Dysfunctional, a sure-fire hit and, as Jordan says, a “feel-good summer tune”. If you like something with a hefty base, then ‘Just Wanna’ by Pinto will suit you down to the ground. “It was only released a few weeks ago but it’s a tune I will certainly be playing a lot this summer,” says Jordan. “It's a chilled house track but has a really feel-good vibe and really nice catchy vocal. I only heard it last week when searching for tunes and prepping one of my DJ sets.”
There are also more chilled tunes from the likes of Janelle Monae and dance-heavy beats from Josh Parkinson, for when the cocktails kick in and you fancy a dance, but one artist the twins are loving right now is Peggy Gou: “We’re really inspired by her. She’s one of the first females who has really brought music and fashion together and is really making huge waves in both industries. She really has set the precedent for more female DJs worldwide and is inspiring more women to get in to DJing and producing. In an industry that is still very male heavy, she is dominating line ups and really setting the tone. I am hugely inspired by her work ethic and her constant ability to create. She never seems to stop. I love her new song Starry night that will certainly get you on your feet!”
The Old
If you love your dance music, you’ll love favourites from Anime Edge & DANCE, and Sabb. Plus, with Purple Disco Machine still making waves today, it would be rude not to have their classic ‘Street Life’ in there. “Purple Disco Machine is one of our favourite artists out there at the moment. He can take a classic and twist it into something much more modern; a disco, upbeat version of the original. He’s so good. We actually met him on a weekend away with the W hotel where he performed at a private party – we were in our element. This is an oldie and one of my faves – perfect for warming a party up and getting them in the mood.”
The Classics
It wouldn’t be a party without Daft Punk gracing the playlist. Jordan and Loanne have gone for One More Time because it’s their favourite to drop at the end of their set. “Such a classic and one the everyone can sing and dance along to,” they said. “It really unites a crowd as everyone knows the lyrics and it’s so upbeat! We've played it a couple of our festival sets before and it really gets everyone going!” Plus, with the success of Us this year, you can’t not have Luniz’s ‘I Got 5 On It’ in there.
