What It Is & How It Works:
Since its launch in 1991, Egyptian Magic Cream has amassed something of a cult following. Simplistic in both its design and formula, the balm contains only six ingredients – olive oil, beeswax, honey, bee pollen, royal jelly and bee propolis. Fragrance-free, it’s suitable for all skin types, and is often dubbed a ‘miracle worker’ for its ability to do a bit of everything. From soothing ragged cuticles and dry skin to easing conditions like eczema, it’s easy to understand why it was originally sold as a homeopathic remedy.
As the years have passed, experts have found other uses for it, too – including as a make-up remover. Its thick, oily formula melts everything down, while extra points go to its nourishing benefits, which help soothe problems like razor burn and nappy rash.
Why Insiders & A-Listers Love It:
From Kate Hudson to Eva Mendes, A-listers swear by this iconic cream. “In the early years, Egyptian Magic was available in local health food stores, until 2003 when one website suggested Madonna was a fan,” explains the team at Egyptian Magic. “This was the catalyst for Egyptian Magic’s international expansion into Japan, Australia, France and the UK and it soon became a staple for celebrities, make-up artists and beauty experts, alike. By 2007, it was Whole Foods’ best-selling body care product. While still a firm favourite of many high-profile stars – including OG fan Madonna – it’s since won over a new generation of fans, including bloggers and YouTubers.”
Described as an ‘all-around go-to,’ by Kate Hudson, model Behati Prinsloo loves it for keeping her legs silky smooth. Meanwhile, make-up artist, Ozzy Salvatierra is said to have used it to give Rihanna her glossy lids and dewy cheekbones in her music video for ‘Bitch Better Have My Money’. Free from additives, preservatives, fragrances and parabens, anyone can slather it on without fear of irritation.
How To Get The Most From It:
There aren’t any hard or fast rules when it comes to using Egyptian Magic Cream. That said, experts recommend you warm it up in your hands beforehand: “It works best when you heat it up, then press it onto your skin,” explains make-up artist, Kenneth Soh. “It’s the best product to use if you’re faced with extreme dry skin and need to nourish it quickly. There are so many ways you can use it too – I love to layer a little onto eyelids before a shoot for that wet-look glow. You’ll find it works well as a barrier cream, too, when dying or bleaching brows, but also protecting your skin ahead of self-tan. Finally, try mixing a little with your lipstick to create a lip tint, or sheer cheek gloss. Always start with a tiny, pea-sized amount, then add more if needed.”
Another make-up artist fan includes Ruby Hammer MBE: “Everyone should keep one of these pots nearby. It works on dry lips, ragged cuticles, heels, elbows and literally anywhere else that needs a skin-softening boost. It would easily be my desert-island product.” Hairstylists also recommend using it to slick back your hair. Not only does it give strands extra sheen and texture, it helps to lock in moisture, too – simply mist with hairspray and you’re good to go.
What The Brand Says:
“From day one, Egyptian Magic’s mission has been to provide a professional, multi-purpose skincare product,” says the Egyptian Magic team. “This pot of wonder moisturises and nurtures the skin, using some of nature’s most effective ingredients. It can be used to heal burns, treat cuts and scrapes, and conditions like eczema and psoriasis – though always speak to an expert first. Apply it as a hair conditioner, lip balm and after sun, too. Some swear by it as a massage balm, and it’s safe enough to be used throughout pregnancy. The list goes on, which is why it’s a product we continue to be proud of and are sure will stand the test of time – when we say this is multi-purpose in every single sense, we mean it.”
