Three Easy, Festive Beauty Looks

If there’s ever a time to get glammed up it’s Christmas – and a festive look extends well beyond your outfit. From statement lips to smokey eyes and jewel-toned shades, let our John Lewis party lookbook provide you with all the inspiration you need. For tips and advice on how to replicate each look, leading UK make-up artist & SL beauty contributor Zoe Taylor told us how.

CREATED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH JOHN LEWIS & PARTNERS

Look 1: Charlotte Williams

For this party look, we opted for a deep, berry lip as it’s so on-trend this season – plus, it’s universally flattering. With drama on the lips, we wanted to create some light around the eyes with silver. This shade is a perfect nod to the 70s, while still feeling current and fresh, too. The darker your skin tone, the more silver you can apply, whereas lighter complexions should choose golden, honey tones – however, don’t be afraid to mix these with silver to create something unique to you.

Look 2: Gayle Rinkoff

For this smokey eye, we added some gold onto the lid to really enhance Gayle’s gaze. A smokey eye is all about where you apply the highlighter, otherwise it can feel flat and heavy. Dab a small amount onto the centre of your lids and the inner corners. We also added a slick of brown eyeliner along the waterline to enhance the whites of the eyes. As for the lips, we kept them neutral using a beige-nude with purple undertones. This suits warmer complexions and also keeps everything looking fresh.

Look 3: Karina Marriott

A bright red lip was essential for this look. Not only is it timeless, it’s easy to wear and to create. With NARS’ Velvet Lip Colours, you don’t need any liner. Start by blotting over the edges of the lip line with the end of your foundation brush, building a blank canvas, then go in with some colour. This technique helps you create crisp edges and ensure your lipstick stays on even longer. For Karina’s eyes, we kept it simple with a small flick at the outer edges and lashings of mascara for an eye-opening effect.
