The Hype
Make-up fans will remember Tarte’s original Shape Tape concealer, which offered some of the best coverage on the market. Back then, the formula was so coveted that some customers started using the darker shades as a contour or liquid bronzer. That is, until earlier this year, when the brand added the now-viral Sculpt Tape to its range. Trending on TikTok and rivalling some of the industry’s favourite liquid bronzers, its texture, blendability, formula and versatility have made it an instant hit among beauty junkies.
The Formula
With a creamy liquid formula and multiple shades available to match your undertone, this product is so easy to blend. While the Shape Tape’s high-coverage formula made it an icon in the beauty world, the Sculpt Tape has a more medium coverage and the perfect balance of pigment – so it won’t overpower the rest of your make-up. Make-up artist Jessica Kell explains: “I love how seamlessly it melts into my base make-up, which is key if you want to stop your contour looking too harsh. It also lasts a long time on the skin, so it won’t turn patchy or fade as the day wears on.”

How To Use It
It works best dotted around the contours of the face – specifically under the cheekbones, down the sides of the nose, under the jawline, chin and across the forehead. If you’re applying the product in any harder-to-reach areas, the brand recommends using a thin brush to blend it out to maintain that sculpted look. Aside from contour, it also works as a bronzer. Jessica explains: “The consistency of this product makes it so versatile. You can use it to warm the complexion as well as chiselling your features. This is what makes it such an all-round essential – especially for the summer.” For a bronzed look, use a bit more product to draw lines or dots where the sun would naturally hit your face. Then, blend the product out with a fluffy kabuki brush to ensure a diffused, sun-kissed finish.
How To Make The Most Of it
Make-up artists love how quick and easy this product is to use. “Normally, I’d take the wand and place a few dots around the hairline, on the temples and under the cheekbones – then blend it out with a synthetic powder brush or even my fingers,” says Jessica. “But if you have a little more time on your side, try squeezing some of the product onto the back of your hand before using a synthetic buffing brush or bronzer brush to gently apply it in sweeping motions from the temple along the cheekbones, lightly down the nose and buffed into the forehead. Doing it this way will give you more control and a slightly more polished finish.” To take things one step further, take cues from TikTok and try using it as an eyeshadow or to create fake freckles. Start by using a small brush to dot the product over the nose and cheeks, before gently tapping them with a fluffy brush for a more natural finish.
