The Perfect Red Lipstick For Every Skin Tone
Dark Skin
Dark skin can hold its own against brightly pigmented formulas, so brave a bold lip. If you’re looking for something more mellow, a deeper brick red works just as well.
Wendy recommends you try “an audacious red or a fuchsia-toned lipstick; brights look amazing on darker complexions. When it comes to the texture, throw away the rulebook – gloss will look just as gorgeous as matte in these eye-catching colours.”
Fair Skin
Fairer complexions tend to be naturally pinker, so cool toned reds with blue and purple undertones are preferable to oranges.
Wendy said: “If you want something that looks less harsh against your skin I love a muted, burnt nude-red in matte or cream textures. If you’re looking for a sheerer finish, you can try a cream blusher – it will leave a more stained hint of colour.”
Medium Skin
Wendy recommends trying “berry reds with plum or blackcurrant tones for a trend-led take on this season’s red lip. More dramatic shades are made more wearable with a cream or gloss texture, and you can even brighten darker tones up by layering with a lighter red gloss.”
Olive Skin
Those with olive skins should reach for warmer shades to help brighten. Reds that have an orange or coral base are best.“Hotter reds with orange undertones are brilliant on warmer faces and work really well in matte finishes,” Wendy advised.
