4 Spring Make-Up Trends To Know About

When it comes to your personal style, make-up isn’t always the first place you want to experiment – but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few new trends worth exploring. Here, Adeola Gboyega rounds up the latest looks from Fashion Week and the new products to add to your routine.

Barely-There Skin

This spring, it’s all about luminous skin – which explains why we’ve seen so many foundation launches lately. Products like Nars Light Reflecting Foundation and Charlotte Tilbury’s Beautiful Skin Foundation also have added skincare benefits to help improve the overall look of your complexion – not just when you’re wearing the foundation, but over time. To get the look, apply light layers of foundation and focus on the ‘my skin but better’ approach; it should look as though your skin is healthy, not like you’ve applied too much make-up. For best results, ensure your skin is properly hydrated before applying on top.

Flushed Blush

Blush is a great way to instantly perk up your complexion and it was used with abandon at the SS22 runway shows. Make-up artists didn’t stop at the cheeks either – they applied it liberally on the temples and eyes. There are ways to make it more wearable, though. I like to use a cream or a liquid blush, as they are easier to work with and can be built up gradually to your desired effect. Use a fluffy brush to apply your blusher and, if you apply too much, just blend a little foundation over the top to soften the look. Not sure what colour to go for? Choose a blush shade that matches the natural shade of your lips.

Plump Juicy Glossy Lips

This season marks a move away from long-lasting matte lipstick formulas towards plump, juicy, glossy lips. Inspired by the early 2000s, when Lancôme’s Juicy Tubes were all the rage, the gloss trend is back, but with a modern twist. Fortunately, lip gloss formulas are less sticky now and can be a chic addition to lips, eyes and even cheeks. Wear it your way by adding a pop of colour to the centre of your lips first, then layering a gloss on top. If you’re someone that doesn’t like the feel of gloss on your lips, try a lip balm to give you just a little bit of shine.

Double Liner

Fancy being a bit more daring this season? Try the double liner look. First, line the upper lash line and then match it with another line under the lower lashes. Take it a step further by using different colours for each. I love how this look really defines the eyes and can be built up for a more graphic effect. If you’re someone that struggles with liner application, start by tracing your liner out first with a pencil and then going back in with your gel or liquid liner over the top. Finish with lashings of mascara.
