How To Make The Most Of Your Brows

By focusing on your brows and getting the right shape, you can instantly define your features and knock years off your face, says SL Beauty Contributor Adeola Gboyega. Here, she shares her best tips and favourite products to tame and define your brows at home.

Brow Gel

An eyebrow gel is like hairspray, but for your brows. These products are great for someone who already has quite a lot of brow hair and wants to keep their brows in place without adding too much product. If you just want to add a little bit of colour and definition, opt for a tinted brow gel. This will give you great hold and a little colour, without making the brows look too strong. Alternatively, if you just want to tidy your brows and provide a bit of hold, then opt for a clear brow gel. There are so many options to choose from, and these days, many brow gels contain fibres that mimic the appearance of more hair to create thicker and fuller brows. For best results, always brush the brow gel upwards to give your arches a natural lift.

Brow Kits

A brow kit has everything you need to give your brows the full treatment. Most kits contain tools to sculpt, shape and fill in your brows, so you can achieve your desired depth and fullness. Start off by brushing the brows up, to see if there are any gaps and to locate exactly where you need to fill in the brows using the product. Once you’ve done that, use the powder or pomade to lightly sweep the product through the brows, starting at the head of the brow and adding more fullness at the tail. A brow kit is also a great option if you already have a good brow shape, but lack definition. Some will even come with two colours of powder so you can build up the colour gradually.

Brow Pencils

A brow pencil works well if you are looking for more precise application. it also helps to give real structure to your brows, and can be used in addition to a brow powder or a brow gel, to lend them some natural definition. My favourite brow pencils are ultra-fine, so that when you use them, they offer the appearance of real hair. Try to opt for the wax formulations as they are longer lasting. Most brow pencils will have a spoolie on the opposite end, too, and this is useful to comb the product through to ensure everything is evenly distributed.

Brow Pomade

An eyebrow pomade is a cream-based formula, and the perfect solution for those with sparse brows looking to create the illusion of fuller and defined arches. The best way to apply this formula is with an angled brush, using light strokes to mimic tiny hairs. A waterproof formula will also give you that longer lasting wear.

Brow Grooming Tools

With no timeframe on when we can resume professional beauty treatments, you may have to take matters into your own hands and invest in some products for a DIY brow job. These are some of my favourite tools that are super easy to use, to help you groom and maintain your brows at home:
