The Clean, Conscious Make-Up Line Your Beauty Bag Needs
It’s Very Pared Back
Gucci has always lived a wellness-focused lifestyle, which has really inspired her first line of cosmetics-come-skincare. “It’s a real extension of how I live my life, like 80/20,” confirms Gucci. So, the range is devoid of certain ingredients like silicones (which are replaced with camellia oil) and there are no animal-derived ingredients, parabens or chemical filters. She describes the products as “absolutely as clean as they can be at the minute,” which means mostly plant-derived ingredients and oils, but occasionally using specific synthetic ingredients “where they are the more responsible choice.” She’s very open and honest too about when she can’t use natural ingredients – when they would compromise the silky feel and finish that most of us crave.
It’s Been Four Years In The Making
This thoughtfully curated line of six new make-up products has been years in the making. And impressively, it is all self-funded. It renders Gucci’s signature look of dewy, radiant, healthy skin, which previously only her impressive clientele – think Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz – could experience through her cult techniques. Now it’s achievable for all of us with these core products. Gucci describes it as a make-up wardrobe system, with streamlined products delivering everything you need in one go. “There are so many things I expect from my products. I want them to be quick and easy to use, and also feel weightless and comfortable,” she confirms. Think foundation that doubles as concealer and blush, highlighter and contour all in one ultra-chic stick-form packaging.
Each Product Has Serious Skincare Benefits
As a sufferer of rosacea herself, it was important to Gucci this range was kind and gentle to the skin. With this in mind, she included ingredients such as phytosphingosine (a plant extract with anti-inflammatory properties) so the products could be as healing as they are therapeutic. In addition, Westman Atelier used the latest research into silicone alternatives, including lightweight oils and hydrogenated coconut oil. You can expect the formulations to feel soft and buttery, melting into the complexion for a real ‘second skin’ finish that’s breathable and completely weightless.
It’s Worth The Outlay
Starting from £44, the products aren’t high-street cheap, but they are accessible and worthy of the investment, given the extensive research, clean ingredients and expertise behind each product. And seeing as each product is designed to multi-task, you can definitely justify the splurge as it’ll streamline your kit in the long run.
The Packaging Is A Talking Point
Minimalist, lightweight, portable and chic – the packaging is another real selling point for this new line. Inspired by Gucci’s love of vintage travel atomisers, these luxe, magnetic sticks make for a beauty talking point, but they were designed out of her love for practicality: “I prefer the control [a stick] gives you. They’re much easier to target specific areas with and discourage excess. They also wear predictably, so you can rely on them to say all day with no crumbling,” she says.
The Brushes Are Cruelty-Free
Gucci is famous for her use of brushes, so when it came to creating her own set, she sought out one of the most prestigious brush makers in the world – Hakuhodo in Jumano, Japan. The biggest benefit? They have short, stumpy handles so you can get full control of your make-up. There’s one for blending, powder and foundation to ensure you get a seamless, buffed finish.
