9 DIY Lash & Brow Tinting Kits
1000 Hour Eyelash & Brow Dye/Tint, £18
An Amazon best-seller with over a thousand five-star reviews, this brow and lash kit comes in a mixture of colours to suit all needs. Sold with a handy spoolie brush, mix the developer and dye together, before brushing the pigment through and leaving it on for 10-15 minutes. The dye itself is quite pigmented, so be sure to run Vaseline around the eye and brow area beforehand to prevent drips and staining.

Maybelline Brow Tattoo Long-Lasting Tint, £12.99
Brow tints are a commitment, but this peel-off gel allows you to dip your toe in, with subtle results that last for three days. Using the gentle formula, sweep the gel onto the brow, allow it to dry and then peel it off to reveal a soft tint. The best bit? You’re completely in control of how dark or light you go – the longer you leave it on, the more pigmented the tint will be.

Etude House Tint My Brow Gels, £7.99
It’s very possible you’ve seen these gels popping up all over your social media feed. But for those still unfamiliar, these paint-and-peel gels fill in every single brow hair for colour that’s rich but never intimidating. Leave the gels on for two hours, then gently peel off for a subtle, yet defined colour that lasts about a week.

Eylure Pro Brow Dye Kit, £7.50
Designed to leave your brows looking fuller and more defined for up to four weeks, this simple kit comes with a brush, so you can sweep the formula on with ease. Let it sit for 20 minutes (you can leave it for 30 if you want a deeper tint), then wipe away the remnants with a wet flannel or cotton pad. Don’t worry if there’s a little transfer left on the skin around your brows – it wipes off easily after a day or so.

Godefroy Instant Eyebrow Tint, £12.49
It’s nothing fancy, but this salon-level kit is a best-seller for a reason. Complete with easy-to-follow instructions, it’s available in medium, dark brown and light brown, and contains up to 20 applications – giving you good cost-per-use with almost a year’s worth of dye. Leave on for a minute at a time and wipe off with a wet towel or flannel. Don’t panic if you mess up around the brow, a wet Q-tip will easily wipe off any excess.

RefectoCil Brow & Lash Dye, £10
If there’s one lash and brow tint regularly recommended by the pros, it’s this one. Loved for its natural ingredients and extensive colour range, it also allows you to mix and match the product to suit you. Blue and black are the two most purchased tints, and a combo of the two provides optimum definition. If you’re after a more natural effect, look to the dark brown shade which lends definition, but looks softer on blondes or those with fair complexions.

Rimmel London Volume Colourist Mascara, £8.99
For those scared of long-lasting dyes, look for mascaras that contain a semi-permanent lash tint, like this one from Rimmel. Not only is it safe and effective, it works quickly over two weeks to take lashes darker, with results lasting for up to seven days. Don’t expect intense, jet-black inkiness, but a natural hint of colour that’s both believable and eye-opening. As for the mascara itself, it delivers decent separation and volume, too.
*DISCLAIMER: If you’re keen to try DIY lash and brow tinting, make sure you research each product and always do a patch test to ensure you have no allergic reaction. Should you come out in a rash or suffer from any irritation, always speak to your health provider.

Strictly Professional Eyelash & Eyebrow Tint, £5.30
Loved by our very own Beauty Editor, this jet-black tint is easy to use, with a gentle formula that never stings or irritates. Mix a 2cm blob with 10 drops of the brand’s Volume Peroxide, then sweep it on with an old mascara wand, or use your fingers (with gloves on) to rub the tint into the lashes and brow hairs. Just be sure to apply Vaseline around the upper and lower lids to prevent transfer.

Baebrow Instant Tint, £20
One of the chicest DIY dyes we’ve seen, this brow-specific one is great for first-timers thanks to its no-mix tint formula. The heart shaped applicator also makes even coverage easy – use the tip for the smaller, thinner ends of your brows, and the sides for the fuller parts. You only need to wait 5-10 minutes to see impressive, glossy results. We found it lasted for about a week, but others claimed it stays put up to three – either way, it’s great for those looking for instant results.
