What’s In My Beauty Bag: Michaela Devaughan

THE MAKE-UP BAG
Ironically, I never use an actual make-up bag. I’m guilty of just shoving everything in my handbag, be it powder, brushes, lip liner, eyebrow pencils – anything goes. You never know what you'll find in there! That said, when I'm travelling, I use this one from Space NK. It fits everything and comes in different sizes depending on how light you like to travel.
THE SKIN PREP
Who doesn't want beautiful glowing skin? Hydration is always my number one goal – it makes your make-up look so much better. This serum is lightweight and always makes my skin feel smooth and supple – essential in the winter. I also rate the Rhode Glazing Fluid, although it’s a pain to get in the UK. Then, I follow up with a rich moisturiser – the Glossier After Baume is simple but effective.
After Baume, £25 | Glossier
Peptide Glazing Fluid, $29 | Rhode
Vitamin E Serum With 1% Ceramide Complex, £46 | Alpha-H
THE FOUNDATION
This is my favourite foundation – there’s nothing like it. Make it your go-to for both a ‘no make-up make-up’ look or full glam; just build it up for more or less coverage. It never looks cakey and the finish is really flawless. I hear it was used on the set of Euphoria, so it has to be good.
THE BLUSHERS
Picking a favourite blusher is really tough – clearly! I have so many to recommend, but cream and liquid formulas typically get my vote over powder. These are my top three.
Cheeky Posh Cream Blush Stick, £36 | Victoria Beckham Beauty
Vanish Blush Stick, £45 | Hourglass
Eclipse Cheek & Lip Stick, £18 | R.E.M. Beauty
THE BRONZER
I typically avoid highlighter and contouring products – controversial, I know. I’m not sure if it’s just me being lazy, but I much prefer dewy skin and a bit of bronzer instead. This one from Dior gives my complexion such a healthy flush of warmth and blends beautifully.
THE PALETTE
For a pop of colour, my best tip is to add a bright shadow or liner to your inner corners. Palettes that contain a selection of neutral and bright shades are ideal for this – that way you always have some variation. This particular palette is a perfect example.
THE EYESHADOWS
Right now, smokey browns and soft plums get my vote. A cream or liquid eyeshadow will help you achieve a quick, simple smokey effect and you can also build the intensity up or down depending on the occasion. Finish off with a good liquid liner.
Mixed Media Matte Liquid Eyeshadow, £21 | Gen See
Midnight Shadows Matte Liquid Eyeshadow In TTYL, £15 | R.E.M. Beauty
Heroline Eyeliner, £19.50 | Hindash
THE MASCARAS
These are my favourite mascaras right now. They’re perfect for lengthening, and I always get comments when I wear them. Lancôme mascaras have a super silky gel texture that is easy to apply and wear, while this one from Hourglass offers serious definition and drama.
Caution Extreme Lash Mascara, £29 | Hourglass
Lash Idôle Mascar, £18 (was £24) | Lancôme
THE BROW DUO
TikTok is a great way to discover new make-up, and it’s how I came across this brow product from Anastasia Beverly Hills. It has changed my whole brow game. Team it with this Kosas product and I swear it will become your new ride-or-die combo.
Brow Freeze® Extreme Hold Laminated-Look Sculpting Wax, £23 | Anastasia Beverly Hills
Brow Pop Dual-Action Defining Pencil, £19 | Kosas
THE LIP LINER
You'll always find one of these lipliners in my handbag. I really can’t live without it. It has such a lovely brown tone which just makes it a little bit different to your typical everyday nude.
THE LIPSTICKS & GLOSSES
When M·A·C’s ‘Jubilee’ was discontinued, I had to find some new nude lip products to add to my rotation. These pair really nicely with my brown liners and suit multiple skin tones.
Blotted Lip In "Bust", £7.18 | Colourpop
Lip Gloss, £12 | Glossier
Rouge Dior Couture Colour Matte Refillable Lipstick, £34 | Dior
THE FRAGRANCES
For me, fragrance is seasonal. I like warm scents at this time of year and love these three in particular. They’re also lovely if you layer them with a simple vanilla scent – something like Kayali Vanilla 28.
Super Cedar Eau De Parfum, £130 | Byredo
Vanilla | 28 Eau De Parfum, £67 | Kayali
Another Oud Eau De Parfum, £130 | Juliette Has A Gun
Poets Of Berlin Eau De Parfum, €150 | Vilhelm Parfumerie
