When Harry Met Sally

Recommended by Georgina Blaskey

“This is the ultimate rom com. It poses the classic question: can men and women ever truly be friends, or does sex always get in the way? Billy Crystal is brilliantly dry and Meg Ryan is in her prime, and so perfectly cast as Sally. The orgasm scene in the diner rightly has cult status!”

10 Things I Hate About You

Recommended by Rebecca Hull

“This classic 90s rom-com is the definition of a feel-good film – and it comes with a killer soundtrack. One of Heath Ledger's best movies, trust me when I say you'll want to rewatch this time and again.”

Notting Hill

Recommended by Tor West

"Does a rom com get better than Notting Hill? Richard Curtis at his finest, this is the ultimate comfort watch. Plus, the soundtrack gets me every time."

Pretty Woman

Recommended by Charlotte Collins

Pretty Woman is my favourite rom com. It's actually a little before my time too, but it has everything you’d want in a great romantic movie today – glamour, fashion, a beautiful leading couple and a real love story. I must know it off by heart.”

How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days

Recommended by Elaine Lloyd Jones

"This 2003 rom com is about  magazine journalist Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) who tries to date and then drive away a man in ten days, all in the name of work. Unfortunately, the man she picks – advertising playboy Benjamin Barry (Matthew McConaughey) – has also placed a bet saying he can make a woman fall for him in the same amount of time. I just love their chemistry together. My favourite scene definitely involves that gorgeous, pale yellow backless evening gown and a drunken rendition of You’re So Vain."

The Notebook

Recommended by Sarah Templeman

The Notebook is the perfect movie to accompany a rainy Sunday afternoon when you have lost a little bit of faith in romance – a true love story that confirms every single person has a soulmate. Ryan Gosling makes for pretty easy watching too. It's definitely an ugly cry situation but 100% worth it.”

She’s The Man

Recommended by Heather Steele

"Early Channing Tatum, Amanda Bynes at her best, Vinnie Jones taking the p*ss out of himself by playing an angry sports coach… there’s so much to love about She’s The Man. Like 10 Things I Hate About You, this is another modern riff on a Shakespeare play (in this case, Twelfth Night) – one that sees Bynes play both football-loving Viola and her twin Sebastian – in disguise – in a bid to make the high-school soccer team. All is going to plan until she starts to fall for her brother’s roommate… with daft, yet heart-warming results."
