THE TALK: An Evening with Melvyn Bragg At The Beaumont
On Monday 20th June at 6.30pm, Lord Melvyn Bragg will read from his first memoir, Back In The Day, at The Beaumont hotel in Mayfair. As part of the hotel’s new literary series, guests will enjoy a drinks reception with canapés in the private dining room, before listening to the talk. Bragg grew up in a Cumbrian market town surrounded by rituals of hound-trailing, potato-picking, school dances and carnivals, before earning a scholarship to Oxford. In his memoir, Bragg reflects on the early experiences that nurtured his career as a writer, broadcaster and master of the arts. Tickets cost £40 and guests can watch the talk live on Zoom for free.

THE PODCAST: Tales From The Vegetable Patch
Kathy Slack is a food writer, stylist, photographer and kitchen gardener. To celebrate the release of her new book From the Veg Patch, Kathy has released a new podcast with 15-minute episodes filled with uplifting stories about growing and cooking food and the healing powers of gardening for mental health. THE FILM: Elvis
Baz Luhrmann’s new biopic, Elvis, hits the big screen on Friday 24th June. Elvis Presley (Austin Butler) was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and recorded his first song in the studio when he was a teenager. After performing around the Midwest, he signed a record deal and the rest is history. Having sold 500 million records worldwide, the rock n’ roll legend is widely regarded as one of the most important figures of the 20th century. This film charts his meteoric rise to stardom, including his complicated relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks).

THE SHOWCASE: RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival
The RHS’s annual garden festival returns to Hampton Court Palace from Monday 4th to Saturday 9th July. The world’s largest flower show includes beautiful floral installations, landscaped garden displays, events, talks and demonstrations. Highlights include the ‘Festival of Roses’ where you can discover rare varieties of the flower, talks from gardener Monty Don and a gardening demonstration by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall of River Cottage. There’s also a Plant Village where you can shop a variety of species, plus a floral marquee with expert nursery exhibits, prize blooms and a display from Todd’s Botanics, the festival’s 2022 Master Grower. Tickets start from £28.

THE FESTIVAL: Smoked & Uncut
Food and music festival Smoked & Uncut is hosting four events in June and July at Lime Wood Hotel in Lyndhurst and at three The Pig locations – the New Forest, Kent and Bath. Visitors can enjoy sit down meals at tents hosted by top chefs like Angela Hartnett, James Golding, Mitch Tonks, Ed Wilson and Lisa Goodwin-Allen, then listen to music from star performers including Lulu, Earth, Wind & Fire, Jools Holland, Sister Sledge and Hugh Cornwell, to name a few. There will also be festi-food stalls from some of the UK’s best street food kingpins. Tickets start from £50.

THE POP-UP: Anya Hindmarch Garden Emporium
Anya Hindmarch’s Village in Belgravia opened a garden emporium last month to coincide with the Chelsea Flower Show, and it is open until Sunday 3rd July. Inspired by 70s garden centres, the pop-up celebrates the best of British gardening. Shoppers will find a selection of indoor and outdoor plants, plus garden accessories and tools created in collaboration with horticulture brand Thomson & Morgan – think floral picnic hampers, garden totes, aprons, watering cans and vintage kaftans. You can also take part in terrarium workshops for adults and children.

THE EVENT: Festa At Tobacco Dock
This new wine festival at Tobacco Dock in Wapping showcases some of Portugal’s best winemakers, many of which have never been available in the UK. Created by Bar Douro founder Max Graham and Portuguese wine critic Sarah Ahmed, the festival will take place on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th June from 11am to 9pm. Visitors can try over 250 different wines – including Titan of Douro, Quinta das Bágeiras, Hugo Mendes and Quinta das Marias – plus sample Portuguese street food from the stalls and stock up on bottles from the on-site wine shop. There will also be live music and entertainment. Tickets cost £35pp.

THE BALLET: Nureyev Legend & Legacy
Set to be one of the ballet events of the decade, tickets have just gone on sale for Nureyev Legend & Legacy at Theatre Royal Drury Lane from Monday 5th to Monday 12th September. Celebrating the legacy of legendary dancer Rudolph Nureyev, the opening performance will be introduced by former ballet dancer Dame Monica Mason and actor Ralph Fiennes. Then, 22 international dancers will pay homage to a different aspect of Nureyev’s life and work, from world-famous dancer to choreographer extraordinaire. Tickets start from £25.
