THE RESTAURANT: Upstairs at The George, Fitzrovia
This new restaurant is the second project from JKS & Dominic Jacobs, the same team behind the Cadogan Arms in Chelsea. Led by James Knappett, of two Michelin-star restaurant Kitchen Table, the restaurant is on the top floor of The George pub in Fitzrovia. The menu includes elegant takes on British classics, like steak tartare with hay-smoked egg yolk, maple and black pepper sourdough; Scottish langoustine scampi with chips, tartar sauce and crushed peas; and Sunday roasts with all the trimmings. There’s also a sparkling wine bar with an extensive selection of 300 wines from around the world, plus a 20-seat private dining room.

THE PODCAST: Female Pilot Club
This new podcast celebrates comedy written by women. Actors and comedians Kay Stonham and Abigail Burdess ask women TV writers to divulge their secrets, from up-and-coming actors to Emmy award winners. They talk about gags and gaffs, what makes a good script and how to survive as a female writer in the comedy industry. Listeners will hear clips from pilots performed live at the club, from names like Greg McHugh, Sarah Hadland, Jordan Stephens, Vivienne Acheampong and Robert Webb.

THE WORKSHOP: Bloomsbury Flowers at Charlotte Street Hotel
On Saturday 19th March, Charlotte Street Hotel is hosting a florist workshop with Bloomsbury Flowers. Guests will be given a guided demonstration on how to create floral arrangements, with top tips and inside stories from founders Mark Welford and Stephen Wicks. The class will take place in the Vanessa Bell room, where you’ll use seasonal flowers to create a bouquet that can be taken home in a vase. Tickets (£150pp) include a champagne brunch in Oscar Bar & Restaurant. If you can’t make it this month, there are more sessions in June, September and November.

THE BOOK: Burning Questions: Essays and Occasional Pieces, 2004-2021
In this collection of essays, cultural icon Margaret Atwood shows us the world through her eyes – dissecting some of the biggest issues of the 21st century. From climate change and political turmoil in America to a financial crash and the Covid-19 pandemic, Atwood aims her prodigious intellect and humour at the world, and reports back on what she finds. Topics include everything from the history of forests to the nature of science fiction.

THE EXHIBITION: Life Through A Royal Lens At Kensington Palace
This new exhibition explores the Royal family through photography and brings together some of the most iconic images of the royals taken over the last 200 years. The display explores the Royal Family’s relationship with the camera, from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s patronage to lesser-known intimate portraits of Princess Margaret. The exhibition also includes several portraits by Cecil Beaton, Annie Leibovitz and Norman Parkinson, as well as pictures taken by family members themselves, including the photographer and former resident of the Palace, Lord Snowdon, husband of Princess Margaret. Tickets cost £16.

THE EVENT: Cafe Murano Book Club
Chef Angela Hartnett OBE has launched a new book club for a series of culinary evenings dedicated to the best food writers in the business. Taking place at her Bermondsey restaurant, Cafe Murano, award-winning food writer Mark Diacono will lead conversations with guest speakers, while diners enjoy a welcome drink and two-course dinner. The next event takes place on Sunday 26th March, where Mary Berry will discuss one of her bestselling cookbooks, Mary Berry Cooks to Perfection. Tickets cost £85pp.

THE CELEBRATION: Platinum Jubilee Celebrations At The Goring
The Goring hotel has created a series of celebrations to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. From this month, historic coronation dishes (served to guests back in 1953) will be reintroduced to the David Linley-designed dining room, while the cocktail bar will serve special ‘coronation cocktails’ including a ‘Jubilee Fizz’ made with Beirao, peach liqueurs, Ysabel Regina infused with banana and topped with Bollinger Champagne. From April onwards, there will also be a special champagne afternoon tea, a ‘Platinum Pudding’ served in the dining room and a two-night Jubilee-themed staycation.

THE TV SHOW: Sanditon, Season 2
This period drama first aired back in 2019, with an impressive cast that brought Jane Austen’s unfinished manuscript to life. Now, series two will be available to watch on BritBox on Monday 21st March. The series tells the story of Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams), who moves away from her countryside hometown to start a new life in the seaside resort of Sanditon. Accompanied by her younger sister Alison, the two women quickly attract the attention of two eligible suitors but, as with all Jane Austen stories, the pursuit of love is always complicated…

THE SHOW: The Corn is Green
This new show arrives at the National Theatre next month. Miss Lily Moffat arrives in rural North Wales, determined to help young local miners out of poverty by teaching them to read and write. Lily soon spots talent in the unruly Morgan Evans, but when she faces growing resistance from the community, she does everything in her power to forge a new future for him. Emlyn Williams’ semi-autobiographical play is given a bold new staging by director Dominic Cooke (The Normal Heart, Follies) in its first London revival for 35 years. SL favourite Nicola Walker (Unforgotten, The Split) plays the visionary Miss Moffat.
