LONDON

*The Beaumont, Mayfair*

Located on a quiet garden square in Mayfair, The Beaumont occupies a stunning Art Deco building a stone’s throw from Selfridges in Oxford Street and the luxury shops on Mount Street and Bond Street. Its Coronation tea will be served in the Gatsby’s Room and, in addition to a selection of sandwiches and buttermilk scones, the pretty hand-made gemstone-hued pastries are a tribute to the precious stones found in the Crown Jewels. You’ll want to eat them all: Emerald – a coconut cake with white chocolate and pandan; Ruby – a rose, jasmine and lemon choux; Diamond – a vanilla and natural yoghurt tartlet; and Golden Topaz – a saffron, bitter chocolate and almond cake.

Available throughout May, from £62. Click here to book and for further details.

*InterContinental, Park Lane*

*Brown’s Hotel, Mayfair*

Queen Victoria loved to take tea in the elegant Drawing Room at Brown’s and Queen Elizabeth II was also a regular visitor, so it comes as no surprise that this historic hotel is celebrating the Carolean era with their ‘English Garden Afternoon Tea with Boodles’. The theme of the tea nods to the monarch’s passion for gardening as well as Boodles’ Secret Garden and Woodland collections – in addition to precisely cut finger sandwiches, guests will also enjoy cakes decorated with fresh flowers on a delicate floral cake stand. The tradition of beekeeping has long continued within the royal family and, on the top of the cake stand, sits a delicate cake in the shape of a beehive which, when served, will be drizzled with Highgrove honey. As an extra touch, you will receive intricately hand-painted postcards which you can take home with you or write to congratulate the King and then post the card in the pink Boodles post box in the reception area to be hand-delivered to Buckingham Palace.

Available until 31st August, from £75pp. Click here to book and for further details.

*Westminster Abbey Cellarium, Westminster*

You’d be hard pressed to get much closer to the Coronation than enjoying afternoon tea at the Cellarium Café and Terrace in Westminster Abbey. The menu is influenced by King Charles III’s passion for sustainability and focuses on using British sourced ingredients. Begin with smoked chicken, egg mayo, and cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches, and a courgette, pea and mint tart. Earl grey tea scones with Tiptree jam and Cornish clotted cream are served next, followed by a selection of cakes – carrot and quinoa, sweet pea and lemon, and passion fruit and raspberry.

Available until 31st July (except between 25th April and 8th May when the Abbey and Cellarium are both closed), from £32.50pp. Click here to book and for further details.

The Goring
The Goring

*The Goring, Belgravia*

The only hotel to have been granted a Royal Warrant for hospitality services by the late Queen and a favourite among the royal family (the Queen's Mother loved the Eggs Drumkilbo and Kate stayed here the night before her wedding), The Goring will be serving a Coronation-themed afternoon tea in the sunny Veranda. The menu features King Charles’s favourite cakes and sandwiches, including delicate Coronation Cotswold chicken finger sandwiches; warm scones decorated with the King’s profile and served with Coronation strawberry and elderflower jam; and horse carriages and crowns made from moulded dark chocolate. Top this off with a glass of Bollinger Brut Champagne, after which you can stroll to Buckingham Palace which is just a few minutes’ away; or head to the hotel’s lively, iconic bar and order a gin cocktail made with The Goring's new Coronation Gin.

Available until 28th May, from £75pp. Click here to book and for further details.

*Fortnum & Mason, Piccadilly*

A bastion of Britishness, Fortnum & Mason has a long-running connection to the royal family. The 316-year-old department store in Piccadilly is undoubtedly one of our capital’s most stylish destinations for afternoon tea where the late Queen opened the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon in 2012, the year she celebrated her Diamond Jubilee. Now, the store is paying tribute to the Coronation with an afternoon tea that focuses on British flavours and the King’s favourite ingredients. You’ll enjoy a selection of finger sandwiches including Cotswold Legbar egg mayonnaise; cucumber with minted pea and horseradish; salt beef with kohlrabi and tarragon sour cream dressing; Kames Bay trout with preserved lemon and dill cream cheese; and a woodland wild mushroom éclair. Follow this with freshly baked scones, served with Fortnum’s strawberry preserve, lemon curd and Somerset clotted cream, and cakes. Your ‘tearista’ will help you choose which tea is right for you from a range of signature blends, single-estate and infusion teas, before you toast the occasion with Fortnum’s own label Blancs de Blancs Grand Cru Coronation Champagne or a limited-edition Delphinium cocktail.

Available until September, from £75. Click here to book and for further details.

*Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane*

The Grosvenor House has held a string of historic royal celebrations – it hosted a Coronation Ball for King George VI in 1937, the Coronation Year Ladies' Night for Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 and Queen Charlotte's debutante balls. Their special afternoon tea to celebrate King Charles III’s accession to the throne, which is served in The Park Room, includes finger sandwiches, fresh scones and limited-edition pastries to represent the countries that make up the United Kingdom, as well as London: Journey to the Highlands is a mousse with organic honey extracted from foraged heather in the Scottish Highlands; the Irish Sea is a traditional Irish apple cake with layers of chilled English custard and organic Bramley apple compote, from the orchards of Armagh in Northern Ireland; the English Rose is a rose and cream pudding using handpicked strawberries from Kent and natural rose extract from Berkshire; Carriage to Cymru is a lemon baked cheesecake made with Welsh Perl Wen soft cheese, sourced from an artisan and organic dairy farm in Carmarthenshire; and the Carolean Era is an edible replica of the St Edward's crown, made from rich dark chocolate, produced here in London. OUT OF TOWN

*Cliveden House Hotel, Taplow, Berkshire*

Built in 1666 by the 2nd Duke of Buckingham as a gift to his mistress, the history of Cliveden goes back over 350 years and includes powerful personalities, iconic parties and scandalous affairs. Today, the Grade I-listed house is a luxe Relais & Châteaux hotel and spa, and the perfect setting for an afternoon tea to celebrate the Coronation, especially after touring the glorious National Trust grounds. Taken in the plush Dining Room, which overlooks the celebrated Parterre Garden, the menu features sweet treats inspired by the flowers that grow in the King’s gardens and savoury bites made with produce from the farm at Sandringham. In addition to a choice of finger sandwiches and freshly made scones, highlights include the Buckingham honey and cheddar éclair, the Kensington poppy seed cake and the Sandringham magnolia and honey cake. There’s a vast choice of teas but we especially like Cliveden’s own blend, a bold, malty and rich tea made with the widest variety of leaves ever grown in England. Top this off with a glass of Laurent-Perrier or a Berry Explosion cocktail, made with gin, crushed mixed berries, mint, lime juice and cranberry juice.

Available until the end of the year, from £55pp. Click here to book and for further details.
