This new podcast is hosted by journalist Alice Vincent, who wants to find out why women turn to gardening. It’s also about the strength of women and sisterhood – and how many are drawn to nurturing and creative roles within the home and beyond. Alice speaks to designers, chefs, entrepreneurs and writers in their gardens, as well as gardeners including Poppy Okotcha, Sarah Raven and Claire Ratinon. An Evening with Margaret Atwood at Emmanuel Centre
To celebrate the release of Margaret Atwood’s new collection of short stories, Old Babes in the Wood, the Booker Prize-winning author will talk about her career and literary achievements at the Emmanuel Centre on Thursday 16th March from 7.30pm. The stories in her latest collection are all about human experiences, from two best friends disagreeing about their shared past and the right way to stop someone from choking to a daughter determining if her mother really is a witch. Featuring a cast of characters from George Orwell’s novels to an alien retelling human fairy tales, the collection of short fiction celebrates the weird and the wonderful. THE FESTIVAL:
Women of the World
Women of the World festival, otherwise known as WOW, returns to the Southbank Centre from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th March. To mark International Women’s Day, guests can listen to some of Britain’s most inspiring women and leading feminists, from broadcasters and comedians to artists and businesswomen. On Friday evening, live from the Royal Festival Hall and with special guests, broadcasters Jane Garvey and Fi Glover will unpack some of the big news of the day in an extended edition of their new podcast from The Times Off Air… with Jane and Fi. Other speakers in the festival include Roxane Gay, Jude Kelly CBE, Julia Gillard, Meera Syal, Deborah Levy and Kathy Burke. Tickets start from £10.

THE EXHIBITION:
Queen's Corgis at The Wallace Collection
The Wallace Collection will open a new exhibition exploring the unique relationship between dogs and humans. Featuring portraits by Thomas Gainsborough to David Hockney, it examines our devotion to four-legged friends across the centuries. As part of this, there’s a special display dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II and her beloved corgis. Britain’s longest-serving monarch was known for the close association she developed with Pembroke Welsh corgis, a fearless breed of herding dog, owning over 30 of them throughout her reign. The exhibition includes rare portraits of the monarch with her pets over the years. Tickets are free.

Drift by Caryl Lewis
Welsh author Caryl Lewis returns with a new story about love, magic and the lure of the sea. Nefyn has always been an enigma, even to her brother Joseph with whom she lives in a small cottage above a blustery cove. Hamza is a Syrian mapmaker, incarcerated in a military base a few miles up the coast. A violent storm will bring these two lost souls together, but other forces will soon try to tear them apart... THE SOLO PERFORMANCE:
Sheku Kanneh-Mason
Sheku Kanneh-Mason is one of the UK’s most admired cellists. After winning the BBC’s Young Musician award back in 2016, he played at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2019 – which launched his global success. Sheku will perform at Wigmore Hall on Wednesday 15th March at 7.30pm, when guests can listen to the cellist perform pieces by Bach, Benjamin Britten, Leo Brouwer and Spanish composer Gaspar Cassadó.

Inside Beethoven At Printworks
Following a sold-out debut performance back in 2021, Aurora Orchestra returns to Printworks, formerly the site of Europe’s largest printing presses. A great chance to experience the venue before it closes after its last season, the orchestra will play Symphony No5 from memory. The music will be accompanied by sound and light installations for a fresh take on Beethoven’s music. Tickets cost £29.50.

Trivet
Southwark’s Michelin-starred restaurant Trivet has created a new membership programme and events series. Trivet Tasting Club will include tasting experiences guided by chef Jonny Lake and sommelier Isa Bal, each based on one of three themes: kitchen, cellar and bar. The first event will take place on Saturday 11th March and will focus on wines from the world’s earliest wine producing regions, including Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Lebanon and Greece. Guests can try 30 wines with a selection of snacks from the kitchen. Members can also buy their favourite bottles from the night. Annual membership costs £150.

Petersham Nurseries is welcoming spring with a new series of ‘School of Garden’ workshops and masterclasses at its Richmond and Covent Garden sites.
