The Iconic Hotel To Book On The French Riviera
Created in partnership with IHG HOTELS
The History
Famously the first luxury hotel to open in Cannes, the Carlton Cannes has been an iconic sight on the French Riviera for the last 100 years. Occupying the frontage of an entire block overlooking the city’s prestigious beachfront promenade, La Croisette, the hotel’s grand exterior is hard to miss – and it’s no surprise to hear it offers the largest unobstructed view in Cannes. Known for hosting the establishment elite – from film stars to presidents – and acting as the backdrop for Elton John’s ‘I’m Still Standing’ music video and Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch A Thief, it is a truly storied hotel. Now it's added a new chapter to its history.
The Hotel
On the Côte d’Azur, the hotel is just a 45-minute drive or short helicopter transfer from Nice Côte d'Azur Airport. Following a two-year refurbishment programme, it is now a flagship within the next generation of Regent Hotels & Resorts. To celebrate the renovation, its famous ‘Carlton Hotel’ inscription atop its façade has been restored. The rest of the property’s majestic Belle Epoque exterior, which is framed by twin domes, has also been restored to its former glory.
As part of the ambitious project, the entirety of the ‘Grand Dame of Cannes’ has been reimagined by the acclaimed French interior designer Tristan Auer, including 332 bedrooms – 72 with a sea view – 52 suites and 37 branded residences. Inside each bedroom, you’ll find high ceilings, calm pantones, artisan fabrics and every modern luxury needed for a truly restful stay. We love the look of the One Bedroom Suite With A Sea View, which has a residential feel, king-sized bed, generous living space, panoramic vistas, an elegant bathtub and lots of natural light.
Thanks to an extension, the hotel now has a new meeting centre, alongside an infinity pool, quiet courtyard garden and state-of-the-art fitness centre. Opening in May 2023, Le C Club caters to every physical or emotional need with a full suite of facilities and restorative experiences. Offering everything from boxing to Pilates, the club's elevated menu of signature treatments will be tailored for all moods and needs. Perhaps best of all, the grand hotel has its own 492sq m private beach club and a spa with sleek sunbathing decks, cabanas – and the largest infinity pool in Cannes.
The Experience
Carlton Cannes has plenty of choice when it comes to places to drink and dine. One of the latest options is Turkish restaurant RÜYA, which has popular sites in London and the Middle East, plus an exclusive bar and courtyard terrace. However, The Riviera Restaurant has to be the most iconic meeting point on La Croisette, hosting countless celebrities over the decades. It’s just the spot to book for a memorable meal. Elsewhere, guests can choose from a relaxing afternoon tea or morning patisserie at Camelia Tea Lounge, a drink on the cigar terrace, sleek cocktails and bottles of champagne at Bar58 or Franco-Italian dishes and a chic 1950s atmosphere at the Carlton Beach Club restaurant.
The Ethos
Regent’s philosophy is to deliver a service that enables guests to be the best version of themselves by removing the bumps and barriers of everyday life. The hotel group believes luxury is about being immersed in the art, music and architecture of a space, and experiences along these lines can be dialled up or down to suit guest needs. As well as atmospheric strolls past the designer boutiques of La Croisette, experiences range from chartered sunset sails to helicopter rides over the coastline and the team’s speciality – bespoke cinematic experiences. Perfect for anyone drawn to Cannes’s glamorous reputation as host of the famous annual film festival – especially as this year, the hotel will be hosting the festival's official party.
