With the kids now eight, nine and 11, it feels like the perfect time for Lapland: they're old enough to cope with the cold and longer evenings, but still young enough to fully lean into the excitement of it all. For me, it’s also about (hopefully) ticking off the Northern Lights, which has been on my bucket list for years. For the kids, I love that Lapland offers a mix of festive atmosphere and adventure. The idea of all of us heading out on a husky ride or reindeer safari really excites me. It’s the kind of short trip that doesn’t require weeks off work but still creates the sort of memories you’ll talk about for years to come. It’s known for its warm, family-friendly approach and brilliantly organised itineraries. After weighing up nearly every hotel in the Caribbean, we settled on North Eleuthera's [Coral Sands](https://www.coralsands.com/) – when you see the pictures, you'll understand why. Miles of deep, untouched white sand, Barbie Dreamhouse interiors, proximity to the US (it's a short hop over from Miami) and a real sense of barefoot luxury were the main selling points – so many Caribbean hotels are either too old school or big and touristy, and this is a modern, stylish alternative. If you’re a serious foodie, take note: Melbourne’s dining scene is widely considered one of the best in the world. A long-time favourite is South Asian hotspot [Chin Chin](https://www.chinchin.melbourne/), which never misses with its bold, flavourful dishes. Next on my list is [Yiaga](https://www.yiaga.au/), one of the city’s most talked-about new openings, set within the lush Fitzroy Gardens on Wurundjeri Country. The beautifully designed space is reason enough to visit but it’s the ever-evolving, Australian-inspired menu that’s really caught my attention. Food markets are equally impressive. I’ll be heading straight to [Queen Victoria Market](https://qvm.com.au/), where I had some of the best pastries of my life at [Publique](https://www.publiquebakery.com/) – my advice is to get there early to avoid missing out. I’ll be checking into [1 Hotel Melbourne](https://www.1hotels.com/melbourne) on the Yarra Riverfront, a sustainability-led stay with calming, biophilic interiors, reclaimed materials and an abundance of living plants. Rooms are smart and understated, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing river or skyline views, making it an ideal base for a slower-paced city break. Wellness always plays a big role in my travels, so I’m excited to explore the Great Victorian Bathing Trail. Spanning more than 900km, it links hot springs, mineral pools and sea baths along Victoria’s southern coastline. Whether I opt for a full road trip or a single soak, highlights include the Peninsula Hot Springs, Alba Thermal Springs & Spa, Hepburn Bathhouse and Metung Hot Springs. I love a mountain getaway (St Moritz in the summer, for example, is just beautiful), so I’ll be channelling my inner Julie Andrews in *The Sound of Music* and leaning into the trend with a trip to Lake Wolfgang in Austria. After a couple of days in Salzburg – a Baroque city and the birthplace of Mozart that I’ve wanted to visit for years – we’ll be heading to [Villa Alma](https://www.i-escape.com/villa-alma) for a few days of lakeside lounging. This chic lakeside house offers great value for money while still feeling really luxe. The interiors are warm and joyful, with plenty of cosy corners for settling in with a book, as well as walking routes for mountain views. You can take out its bikes to explore, head onto the lake with paddleboards, or simply relax by the water on sun loungers. This year, I’m planning a four-night stay with my mum and siblings. I’m going for the food and the sun, but also for the history. I can’t resist the romantic tragedy of Leonard Cohen and his time spent there at the height of his career. There’s a beautiful Netflix documentary, *Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love*, and an ITV drama, *So Long, Marianne*, released last year and starring Alex Wolff and Anna Torv, that capture it so perfectly. I binge-watched both and can’t wait to wander the island’s threadlike streets as they weave their way through Hydra. The island is completely car-free, which will be a welcome escape from London’s busy pollution. There’s also a very good (slightly challenging) hike up to a monastery perched on one of the island’s highest peaks, which I plan to tackle at least once. I think it’s the ideal family destination with older teenagers – it would be a full-on itinerary, as there’s so much to see and do, and I don’t think they’d go there with friends anytime soon. It feels perfect for this age and stage. It’s so different from Europe and other places I’ve travelled, and I love the idea of discovering a culture and landscape that feels entirely new. From the neon-lit streets of Tokyo to the peaceful temples of Kyoto and the ancient samurai paths of the Kumano Kodo, the contrast between mega cities and traditional country is incredibly appealing. I’ve heard that [The Okura](https://www.okura-nikko.com/japan/tokyo/the-okura-tokyo/) in Tokyo is one of the most beautiful hotels the world, so I’d definitely want to check that out, and for food, the teppanyaki at [Sekishin](https://www.newotani.co.jp/en/tokyo/restaurant/sekishin/) and sushi at [Saitou](https://www.arkhills.com/gourmet_shops/0010.html) come highly recommended. There’s an 18-storey [stationery store](https://www.ito-ya.co.jp/ext/lang/en/index.html) where we might loose ourselves for a few hours and, of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to Japan without a [tea ceremony](https://www.getyourguide.com/en-gb/kanazawa-l32537/kanazawa-kenrokuen-tea-ceremony-experience-t647215/?ranking_uuid=9eadfaf5-4796-4ba7-8091-935dba82f343). Austrian by birth, my home country still feels endlessly aspirational to me – and so this is firmly on my 2026 bucket list. Everything about Forsthofgut speaks to the kind of escape I’m always drawn to: snow-covered peaks and crisp mountain air in winter; lush green meadows, hiking trails and long alpine days in summer. The outdoor pool, steaming against a mountain backdrop, feels like reason enough to visit on its own. Winter or summer, it looks spectacular. What interests me most is how effortlessly it balances nature and comfort. Warm, grounded architecture rooted in tradition yet unmistakably modern, with days shaped by the landscape, slow mornings and restorative spa time. For me, Austria will always be a dream destination. First, the overnight flight combined with the minimal time difference means you essentially don’t lose any time travelling – perfect for maximising holiday days. Secondly, and probably the main reason I keep going back, the food scene is sensational. We’ll likely spend a few days in and around Cape Town, revisiting favourites like [Foxcroft](https://www.lacolombe.restaurant/foxcroft), which offers a delicious yet refreshingly informal tasting menu, and [Constantia Glen vineyard](https://constantiaglen.com/) for crisp wines and fresh flatbread pizzas. We’re hoping to spend a few days on safari or at a game reserve, so we’ll plan our route around that but we always stop in Paternoster – a sleepy, unspoilt beach town – and Franschhoek, which is famous for its wines.
