Look 1: LEGAL CEREMONY
Despite being engaged since June 2024, we only decided to get married in December last year, which was super last-minute. That said, if I had to plan a wedding for much longer, I think I’d have gone insane. I didn’t realise how consuming wedding planning is and we had fewer than 30 guests! We decided on a two-part wedding. The first was in Newcastle, Sydney and the second was in Lake Como, Italy. I worked with MAËLLE, a custom bridal designer based in Melbourne, to create both looks for our first celebration. Every appointment was so productive – we made so many changes, but it was truly such an incredible experience to create my dream wedding outfits. For the day look in Australia, I knew I wanted to wear something unique. I love that the structured blazer and lace skirt looks like two pieces but is in fact one dress. It had this amazing button back to it, which made it easier to get in and out of and there’s also an incredible amount of boning in the blazer to give it that corseted look. In the morning, I got ready in this Bubish set.
I also worked closely with Keep in Touch for the accessories. I really found it hard to find anything I truly loved, and I was also set on not purchasing just one-wear pieces. When we came across the yellow, two-toned metal Jacquemus clutch, I just knew it was me all over. I can also confirm I’ve already worn it plenty of times since. I went with Heaven Mayhem for my earrings and Jimmy Choo for my shoes.
My hair was very much inspired by Sophia Richie’s Met Gala look, which had happened only a few days before. I immediately sent it to my hairdresser Dominic Pelli and he whipped it up in 45 minutes – record-breaking if you know how much hair I have! For glam, I put complete trust in my make-up artist Caragh Hayes and we stuck to a more natural look – so no lashes and just an easy, bronzed glow. My fragrance was Eau Duelle by Diptyque.
Look 2: EVENING RECEPTION
The evening reception took place at Bistro Penny – somewhere we’d chosen after having an incredible dining experience there a few months before. My dress was created by MAËLLE again – very different to the day look, and definitely more of a ‘party’ dress. I loved it though; the sleeveless beaded lace column gown felt so elegant and timeless. Again, it went through several design changes – it was originally backless – and I wore these earrings from Heaven Mayhem. The shoes and bag remained the same as earlier in the day.
The style and theme of the evening, but really the whole day, was very much based on the effortless French charm of Bistro Penny. With the quick turnaround time, we gave the team at One Martini Please complete creative freedom and they honestly knocked it out of the park. The wedding date also matched Jye’s grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary – such a special moment to share with them on the night – and my own grandparents are 93 and 94-years old, which was a major contributing factor as to why we had our reception in our hometown.
Look 3: WEDDING
We wanted to do a third ‘elopement’-style ceremony in Italy but anyone who has tried to do it knows how difficult it is to get legally married in a different country. That’s why we’d done the first day in Sydney – plus, we wanted elderly relative to be able to join us. We chose MUSA Lago Di Como as our ‘elopement’ venue. It was so quintessentially Italian and a real bucket-list destination for us.
Admittedly, I’ve always dreamed of the big white dress and really wanted to have that grand reveal moment with my now-husband, Jye. When I tried on the dropped waist gown at Sydney-based KYHA, I immediately knew it was the one. It’s timeless, elegant and I know I’ll love it forever. The scarf detail also felt quite modern and a bit more fashion-forward. I used the same Jacquemus bag and Jimmy Choo shoes. It’s interesting really, because I’d say this look came together first before anything else – it was just so instinctual.
I also knew wanted to do my hair and make-up myself, so I kept it super simple. The weather was extremely unpredictable while we were there, so I’m glad I went with another up-do. As for the make-up, I also ended up using a full face of Bobbi Brown products; I’d gone for a few tutorials with the make-up artists there beforehand, so I could practise and feel confident on the day. I honestly loved the rain – it definitely made the day feel so much more romantic. I also got ready in a set from Kat The Label and my wedding day fragrance was Kurky by Maison Francis Kurkdjian.
