The Modern Timeless British Jewellery Brand To Know
Created in partnership with 886 The Royal Mint
The Story
One of Britain’s oldest coin makers, and an expert in precious metals, The Royal Mint has launched 886 by The Royal Mint, a contemporary jewellery brand helmed by British designer and creative director Dominic Jones. The mission? To create jewellery akin to a wearable asset – in other words, beautiful pieces that retain their value for generations.
The Style
Classic design with a contemporary twist is what anchors the range. Taking inspiration from traditional bullion bars, the collection aims to celebrate the beauty of precious metals, along with precision craft to create pieces that will last for years to come. The minimalist yet design-led essentials includes hoop earrings, chain necklaces, bracelets, pendants and charms – all designed to be unisex and worn every day. Plus, everything is available in a range of responsibly sourced precious metals like 9ct and 18ct gold and silver.
What’s Different
886 by The Royal Mint looks high end, but even with a focus on quality and longevity, it incorporates pieces starting from a reasonable £99. The brand also champions British craftsmanship – thus helping to preserve the rare skills of The Royal Mint’s craftspeople – which explains why more than two-thirds of the debut collection was produced in-house in south Wales using solid precious metals. Gold pieces from the collection produced on-site in Llantrisant also use 100% recovered gold sourced from electronic waste-the result of a partnership with Canadian clean tech firm Excir to extract gold from discarded laptops and mobile phones.
