3 Cool Jewellery Brands To Know About
Sarah Madeleine Bru
The Story
Soon after training in ceramic design, Sarah set out to pursue her passion by transitioning into fashion and fine jewellery. After amassing ten years of experience working for other brands, she launched her own collection. “I wanted to produce my own creations,” she tells SL. “I loved the idea of observing people’s natural gestures to create jewellery that would match and enhance their own habitats.” During the first lockdown in 2020, Sarah started to draw on her own experiences, coming up with incredible and original pieces.
The Style
According to Sarah, fashion jewellery can be the perfect finishing touch to any outfit. The designer’s recycled gold, vermeil, silver and gemstone pieces make a strong statement, with bold shapes inspired by the natural world. The Coquille ear cuff – reminiscent of a seashell found on a beach – is a firm favourite. “Through my pieces, I’m always searching for balance between the everyday and the sculptural. I often draw on my love of nature and reflect on my personal experiences,” Sarah explains.
What’s Different
The brand offers a bespoke service, so you can pick your metal of choice, adding gemstones and engravings where possible. “I love the idea of creating jewellery or objects that will stay with people forever,” Sarah says. “Sometimes that means creating a unique, purpose-made piece. Maybe you already have a gemstone, an existing piece that you want to reinterpret or a desire to have something made just for you.”
What’s Next
The brand offers a small, considered collection which doesn’t adhere to the seasons, and it has hinted at a lot more newness due later in the year.

We Dream In Colour
The Story
US-based We Dream in Colour is a Black-owned, self-funded and independent jewellery line that focuses on sustainability. Combining her loves of travel and art history, designer and artist Jade Gedeon launched the brand to channel those passions into physical creations. In 2011, her sister Mika joined the business and together they now make pieces designed to stay in your collection for years to come.
The Style
The pieces feature organic shapes and playful motifs, many inspired by historic art and design movements. “Re-imagining classics and tweaking tradition, the pieces are witty, surprising, and will help you stand out from the crowd,” the designers explain. The earrings are made from brass, but with sterling posts so they’re light to wear, and the shapes are inspired by natural elements such as seaweed and tropical foliage.
What’s Different
"We don't pay too much attention to trends, and try our best to keep things consistently fresh in a sea of the same-same," Jade tells SL. Each piece is hand-crafted by the all-women team in its Salem, Massachusetts studio. “From small to big, we take as many steps as we can to minimise our environmental impact,” the duo says. “We also use repurposed materials and Earth-friendly processes wherever possible, and focus on working with socially conscious suppliers.”
What’s Next
As well as continuing to expand the online offering, the brand is opening a brick-and-mortar shop in a little town North of Boston this autumn. If you're heading that way, look them up.

The Ysso
The Story
YSSO – a brand founded by mother and daughter team Stalo and Alexia – is derived from the Greek word for ‘gold’. Stalo, an archaeologist, was always fascinated by jewellery, and after studying how to hand-make it with artisans and silversmiths, she began creating her own pieces. Soon after, Alexia left her job in corporate law and joined her mum to launch YSSO, whose range combines both of their styles in one.
The Style
YSSO puts a modern spin on the typical Mediterranean aesthetic and – as the name suggests – the line includes plenty of gold. “The brand aims to be pure, authentic and elegant,” Alexia tells us, with pieces designed to conjure memories from “summers past, childhood and feelings of relaxation”. Motifs and symbols are also present throughout – the owl symbolises wisdom and the equestrian pins symbolise freedom. The Droplet earrings and the Cordella ring are among the brand’s bestsellers.
What’s Different
Consciously handcrafted in small batches, and supporting Greek silversmiths and traditional jewellery-making practices, YSSO is more than a brand, explains Alexia. In her own words, “It's the common project of cross-generational creation.” Offering the kind of timeless appeal that transcends seasons and trends, it successfully combines heritage and modern design with a youthful, contemporary approach.
What’s Next
The brand will launch its Wonder collection in September, featuring a capsule range of earrings, rings, necklaces and pins. YSSO has also been shortlisted for the UK Jewellery Awards in the Emerging Designer category, making it one to watch.
