Style Rules With Blogger Naaomi Ross
My number one style rule is, if you don’t feel confident in it, don’t wear it. Now I’m in my 30s, I recognise I wore trends and styles in the past that weren’t right for me. Looking back I wonder “Why?" My number one tip for feeling confident is to dress for your body, rather than trying to fit into a trend. Learn to love your body whatever size or shape.
If you asked me to describe my style I would have given a completely different answer last year. My style has really matured recently. I’m always experimenting with colour and the mix of feminine/masculine shapes. Right now, it’s very eclectic because I take my inspiration from so many different places.
A good pair on comfy sandals is top of my spring wish list. I have my eye on some Chanel ones but they’re not cheap and I'm so heavy footed I don’t think I trust myself with them.
Right now, I’m living in a combination of maxi dresses and wide legged pants with a cotton tee. I’m enjoying getting up and dressed in something that isn’t a loungewear set. It makes me want to attack the day.
Recently, I’ve been on the hunt for some good basics, like t-shirts and racer vests. I’ve also been looking to invest in a good pair of sunglasses – I have some favourites bookmarked, but I feel like I need to try them on in-store. Lastly, I’m always looking at ways to jazz up my home in a cost effective way – you can never have too many throws or cushions.
My Burberry trench coat is my favourite piece in my wardrobe. It’s a timeless classic I’ll have for years to come. My Dior shopper tote is definitely my biggest investment – I travel a lot with my job (before lockdown) and it’s the perfect bag to fit everything in. I’m certainly getting my money’s worth.
I'm a big fan of [fellow influencer] Leonie Hanne. The way she mixes colour is unexpected but just works. She has such a clear identity. She’s also a lovely person. I’m also enjoying Valeria Lipovetsky’s content during lockdown – it’s upbeat, informative and a joy to watch.
I’m still quite new to the Dutch life and I’m loving finding new brands. There are so many great independent boutiques in Amsterdam and I have discovered LOVE Stories which is a fashion-lead lingerie and sleepwear brand. The fabrics are gorgeous.
If I could swap wardrobes with anyone it would be Trinny Woodall. Her wardrobe is like an Aladdin's cave! I love her outerwear, tailored pieces and, of course, all the colour.
It’s so hard to pick a single brand if I could only wear one forever, but it would probably be Sandro Paris. They have a good mix of smart and casual, and the quality is beautiful.
My career highlight was being featured in a full page spread of HELLO magazine. That was a pretty surreal moment for me.
I don’t think there is one secret to good style. I’m a big believer that feeling confident in what you wear is what matters. Wear what you like, and express yourself.
