Style Rules With Blogger Jessica Skye
My style is always evolving, but now I’m approaching 30, I’m making more considered purchases and fewer impulsive ones. These days, I opt for classic pieces that I can wear season on season, plus things I know will work with my existing wardrobe.
My go-to outfit when I’m heading to meetings is a classic tapered trouser in black or another neutral, paired with a stripe jumper, chunky boots and an oversized wool coat. When I’m working from home, I’ll wear something more relaxed, like raw-hem Levi’s jeans and a white tee.
My favourite trend this season has to be the biker boot. They go with pretty much everything in my wardrobe. Usually I’ll tuck in a pair of silky trousers or wear them with a knitted midi skirt. They’ll work for the summer months too, with a little linen dress.
If there’s one thing you should buy this season, make it a good coat. I have a belted wool one from & Other Stories that’s one of my favourite purchases so far. Puffers never go out of fashion either. Choose a neutral shade and they’re so handy to chuck on every day – I live in my one from Uniqlo.
Most of my wardrobe is from the high street. I don’t tend to buy many designer clothes or shoes as I worry the trend will pass and I won’t love them as much. Zara, & Other Stories and Arket are my favourites to shop at.
But I do invest in handbags. I recently bought the Loewe puzzle bag, which is the perfect size for fitting all my junk in. I thought long and hard about buying it. I always make sure I buy bags in black, tan or white so I’ll get as much use as possible from them.
My favourite pieces in my wardrobe are my Arket tapered trousers, a white Asceno shirt and my Acne Musubi bag. All of which I’ve worn and used loads.
When it comes to festive dressing, my top tip is to go understated. For parties I tend to opt for black trousers, boots and either a sequin top or cropped blazer. For Christmas day, I’ll always wear black jeans and a festive jumper. Not the loud novelty variety, but something that’s chic yet still festive. & Other Stories has a bright red roll neck at the moment that I’ll be getting my hands on for the big day.
On my Christmas list this year is mostly homeware. I’m really into interiors as well as fashion, so I’d love some Diptyque candles, some linen bedsheets, plus a large Away suitcase for travelling.
My style icons are Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Victoria Beckham. Rosie’s minimal style always goes straight into my saves on Instagram, and I love the way Victoria teams bold colours with structured pieces so effortlessly.
My favourite follows on Instagram are @CarlaEstevezBlog and @JuliaMateian – both their style and aesthetic are so chic.
The key to great styling is to keep it simple. The girl at the party wearing a good pair of jeans, white tee and red lip always looks the best!
