Style Rules: Basics Touch

You may not be following Aida, aka Basics Touch, on Instagram yet, but if you’re a fan of a clean, minimalist aesthetic we suggest you do. A Parisian blogger with a love of all things bright, white and fresh, her style is all the simple dressing inspiration you need. Here, she shares her essential style rules…

I would describe my style as cool, casual, chic and effortless. My number one style rule? Stay comfortable no matter what – also, less is more.

I don't look at trends and don't really follow them – I just wear what I like to wear whether it's trendy or not. But based on what’s out there now, I’m tempted to try the short suit trend or a white dress.

Day-to-day, I mostly wear loungewear like big jumpers, joggers, and leggings. At the moment I’m reaching for an oversized tee and a black legging most days – it's just so easy and comfortable.

I haven’t bought anything during lockdown – I didn’t think I needed more clothes since I have nowhere to go! But I'm planning to treat myself with some more skincare products, which I don’t do very often.

The key to looking unique? Buy mostly vintage and second hand, and then mix it with your faster-fashion items.

My favourite piece in my wardrobe is probably my trench coat. I know this may be a bit cliché from a French girl, but I genuinely love wearing it every season.

I always say be inspired but try not to copy – there are so many beautiful Instagram accounts with a lovely aesthetic, but they are all very similar. The key to looking unique? Buy mostly vintage and second hand, and then mix it with your faster-fashion items.

If I could swap wardrobes with anyone it would 100% be Hannah Desai from Cocobeautea. I'm obsessed with her style and her chill, sophisticated vibe – I love how she styles luxury items with more casual and mainstream brands. This, with an injection of vintage, is the direction I want to take my style in.

There is so much inspiration everywhere, but some of the people I love to follow are @divrav, @pepamack, @mon.agar, @byellenanna, @emmahill, @elborn_doris @shotfromthestreet, @smythsisters, @_jessicaskye, @fakerstrom, @hollyrebeccawhite, @emilyjbull, @chloejade_story and of course @cocobeautea.

Learn what looks good on you and don’t always base your look on trends.

If I could only wear one brand again, I’d have to go with & Other Stories or Arket. I just love their aesthetic.

My favourite outfit I’ve ever worn was from NAKD – it was a beige top with balloon sleeves and high waisted culottes jeans. I paired it with white sandal heels. It’s funny – because I wore it as part of a collaboration during lockdown, I haven’t actually worn it out yet.

Wear what you want to wear – don’t dress to please others. Learn what looks good on you and don’t always base your look on trends. That’s my tip for feeling confident.

The secret to good style is experimenting. In the past I had very questionable style, but I’m happy about that because it led me to my current aesthetic. It’s also important to be constantly inspired, stay true to yourself and have fun. Don’t take it too seriously.
