Prioritise comfort. My style is minimal but not feeling restricted in my clothes is my top priority. Colour-wise, I love a neutral palette. It means that everything in my wardrobe matches – layering these different tones on top of each other always works. I’m not a huge fan of bold prints or shades; instead, I prefer using different textures and silhouettes if I want to make more of a statement. Equally, I’ll often use one piece or accessory to add interest. Oftentimes, I find it’s the simplest things – like a fitted fine knit or white turtleneck neck – that make any look that bit chicer.

Go back to your ride-or-die combos. For me, a maxi skirt with a jumper is something I’ll wear on repeat. I tend to start with the jumper and then go from there or I’ll pair the skirt with a tee and layer a fun jumper over my shoulders.

Rely on your go-to brands. 4th & Reckless is great if you’re looking for a fresh twist on the classics – the way the brand incorporates trends into its pieces makes them so wearable. I especially love the trench coats, which I’d style with a tee, tailored trousers and a knit around the shoulders. Vince also does elevated wardrobe staples so well, plus the colours are always fresh and exciting. Wear one of the silk slip skirts with a knit now and a flowy shirt in the summer. Maison Bent is another brand that weaves Jamaican and Caribbean influences into staple pieces. I went to uni with the designer, and I love wearing the Oversized Poplin Shirt with a neutral pair of trousers and sandals in the warmer months.

Be confident about new trends before incorporating them into your wardrobe. We all follow trends in some way or another, but each person’s take can be so different. Whether it works for you is all in the styling. When I’m into a certain trend, I try to put together ten realistic outfits in my head before I buy anything so I know it will actually get some wear. Two examples I’m loving right now are maxi denim skirts and short bouclé jackets.

Work on creating a capsule wardrobe. My personal must-have pieces would be a cropped jacket, a maxi skirt, an oversized shirt, a lightweight knitted dress and an oversized bag. A shirt is a great spring/summer staple, too because it’s easy to make them feel like you. Personally, I love layering them with cardis, roll-necks and tanks – then adding lots of jewellery. I also think a ‘chuck it all in’ bag is essential. It’s tough to find something that can fit a laptop, a scarf and all your beauty bits that still looks chic. But there are a couple on the high street – check ARKET, M&S, H&M and Charles & Keith – that are actually really timeless.

Don’t get too hung up on the dos and don’ts. While there are ways to make neutrals more interesting, for example – such as adding contrasting textures, opting for oversized pieces and mixing and matching tones – there really are no rules in fashion. Plus, you can always go for the easy wins – for example, a trench coat goes with everything and makes an outfit look so much chicer. Alternatively, a cool leather or suede jacket is such an easy way to give a simple outfit more interest.

Draw your inspiration from everywhere. It doesn't just have to be online or directly from other outfits or influencers. Look up and around and go to your favourite places to find fresh inspiration. If all else fails, try Pinterest. I love having a scroll  to see what jumps out to me. Also, try to document outfits you’ve worn already so you can go back at them when you don’t know what to wear.

Always have a sleek black boot to hand. It’s perfect for this in-between period before the hot weather arrives. My favourites are from Dear Frances – they’re easy to walk in and I love how the curve of the heel transforms them into something more elevated.

Try to shop more sustainably where you can. I often use the 30 wears test when I’m considering new additions – especially investment pieces – and I often browse Vinted or charity shops for the trendier items. Finally, look at the fabrics – it helps to select pieces with a good balance of natural fibres.
