Fairisle Knits

Adding interest and colour to winter outfits can be tricky when you want to prioritise layering. For me, interesting knitwear is one of the easiest ways to do this – and a fairisle style is such a playful take. Keep your knits oversized and team them with high-rise jeans and boots. I’d go for a pointy western or square-toed Moto style for a look that’s more city chic than cabin in the woods. A biker jacket or ankle-length overcoat will also keep things elevated.

Vintage-Look Leather Jackets

A good leather jacket has been my ultimate wardrobe essential for as long as I can remember. I remember getting my first one from Topshop Boutique 15 years ago and wearing it until it was literally threadbare and hanging off me. To me, the more worn the better with leather jackets. As well as the everyday jeans and t-shirt combos, use them to dress down smarter looks like cocktail dresses and heels. The contrast of a beaten-up jacket with glam earrings and lipstick is such a cool take.

Colourful Bags

I love what a colourful bag can do for an otherwise neutral or simple outfit. In fact, I often base my whole outfit on a great bag – be it an oversized tote in a rich colour or a bright evening bag. Red and pink are my go-tos because they always make an impact. I tend to stick to block colours in clean designs with minimal logos or contrasting hardware to keep my looks feeling modern.

Statement Belts

I feel like we’re in a golden era for belts. They really can make an outfit and there’s something a bit preppy and ‘90s J Crew catalogue’ about a great belt which I love. I’m especially into a western-style buckle, plus studs and hardware for added interest and to break up a monochrome look.

Knitted Vests

Knitted vests are the ultimate transitional piece for me. I get great wear out of them all the way through to summer – layered over crisp shirts for a Clueless-style take on preppy, but also on their own over a long-sleeve white t-shirt. Knitted waistcoats and sleeveless crewneck cardigans are also great. Oversized and tucked into trousers or jeans with a belt is my favourite way to wear them. This season I’m also loving the idea of a more strappy shape like the ones from Cordera, layered over shirting – Cher Horowitz would approve.

Party Tops

I came of age in the 2000s so jeans and a nice top is in my DNA. From work dinners to Christmas parties, I feel like the next few months will call for easy but impactful outfits – and a standout top is my secret weapon. I feel like a great top is a simple way to have fun with getting dressed and look great across a dinner table without compromising on comfort or warmth. Jeans (Levis 501s are my failsafe) or relaxed black trousers make more out-there tops that bit easier to wear. I keep everything else low key and slick my hair back to let the top speak for itself.

Black Maxi Coats

I have a theory that a long black coat and great sunglasses can pull anything and everything together – and make it cool. There’s something very cinematic and nostalgic to me about big, oversized overcoats on chilly days. I like throwing mine over trackies and trainers at the weekend or over a micro mini and boots for extra drama.
