The Conscious Edit: October

As part of The Conscious Edit, we select the very best brands, products and initiatives from the world of sustainable fashion. Whether it’s a designer label making big changes or the responsible luxe label we love, these are the conscious new products, services and launches to know about this month…

The Insta Brand: Aurore Van Milhem Paris

Fans of Horror Vacui and Cecilie Bahnsen’s overt femininity will be easily seduced by online label Aurore Van Milhelm, which crafts made-to-order organza, bow-adorned blouses in prints and shapes reminiscent of these designer brands. You have to act fast – pieces come and go in a flash.

The Sustainable Jewellery Line: Kimai

According to TheGreenerDiamond.org, 1,750 tonnes of earth has to be extracted to find a 1.0ct rough diamond. Lab-grown stones are exactly the same as the real thing except – you know, lab-grown – and Kimai is the brand creating stylish jewellery from precious gems grown in Antwerp. Expect dainty gold jewels, signet rings and cool ear-cuffs, all for less than the usual price tag.

The Designer Effort: Prada’s Re-Nylon

Prada’s nylon bags have made a serious comeback of late. But rather than continuing to mass produce the synthetic styles, the brand has launched a new line, Re-Nylon, crafting the same iconic designs from a regenerated version of the fabric, dubbed ECONYL. Created from recycled plastic waste from oceans and fishing nets, you can now snap up those 90s throwback pieces and be kind to the environment, too.

The New Brand: Aligne

Finally – a high street-priced, independent label with a focus on sustainability. Aligne is the new British label creating ethical pieces that tick all the boxes – think slick suiting, military layering pieces and one lust-worthy sleeveless knit – all made from sustainable fabrics and using less water in its production line.

The Denim Brand: Boyish

The brainchild of a former Reformation designer, Boyish creates seriously cool jeans with sustainable fabrics through a completely environmentally-friendly and cruelty-free process – whether it's using a third of the amount of water usually employed to make jeans or working with ethical factories. Expect a comprehensive selection of the most on-trend cuts and shapes, as well as cool boxy jackets and tough boilersuits.
