The Conscious Edit: December

Welcome to The Conscious Edit, where we bring you the very best brands, products and initiatives from the world of sustainable fashion. Whether it’s a vintage find or an eco-friendly venture from brands we love, these are the conscious new products, services and launches to know about this month…

The Leather Capsule: Agolde

Having already upped its sustainability credentials by using organic and recycled cotton denim, Agolde is now broadening its offering with a capsule collection of vegan leather staples. Including buttery soft shirts and trousers, the collection is made using otherwise wasted offcuts from vegan leather hide, which has a significantly lower environmental impact than traditional leather.

The Sustainable Collection: Sleeper

If you’re looking for Christmas gifts with a conscience, Sleeper has launched two brand new products which are predominately focused on sustainability. The first is a cosy shearling slipper, available in five different colours, which is 95% biodegradable, and the other a mini bag made from certified recycled polyester.

The Eco-friendly Hosiery: Better Tights

You’d be forgiven for not having considered how sustainable your hosiery is, but tights are traditionally made using nylon, which is manufactured using a process with a high carbon footprint. Better Tights uses recycled nilit yarns in its designs, which promise to fit every body shape and size.

The Upcycled Blouses: JPL Atelier

We really love a white blouse at SheerLuxe and sustainable brand JPL Atelier’s collection has recently caught our eye. The label has just launched two collections dedicated to the wardrobe staple, called The Edwardian and The Medici, with each piece made entirely from recycled water bottle satin silk. Expect luxurious fabrics complete with pie crust collars, ruching and bell sleeves.

The Knitwear Label: Sheep Inc.

Sheep Inc. claims it’s the first carbon negative knitwear brand – a bold statement but the facts more than back it up. Pieces are manufactured using renewable energy and zero waste knitting – plus, the brand invests 5% of its revenue back into biodiversity projects. Every sweater purchased also comes with a tag that allows the wearer to trace back to the exact sheep the wool came from.
