The Best Of Paris Fashion Week
THE SHOWS
Saint Laurent
YSL’s SS23 show was one of the highlights – from its dreamlike Eiffel tower backdrop to its A-list front row and of course, the collection itself. Designer Anthony Vacerllo is said to have been inspired by designer Paloma Picasso, a close friend of Yves Saint Laurent in the 1970s, who was known for subverting gender norms. To this end we saw sleek, maxi length, hooded dresses and a clear theme of sultry glamour.
Victoria Beckham
In her first ever PFW show, Victoria Beckham opted for glamorous pieces with a wearable feel — a refreshing take among names like Loewe and CDG who showed more outlandish collections on the same day. Held in the historic Val de Grace abbey in central Paris, Beckham’s designs embraced full-on femininity – think sheer fabrics and flattering, figure-hugging cuts. This was excitingly contrasted by statement accessories, including the brand’s new ‘Tassel’ bag.
Isabel Marant
Isabel Marant stayed true to her classic Parisian cool-girl aesthetic again this season, albeit with a touch of grunge. There were plenty of flowing dresses with oversized nylon bombers and a mix of leathers and silks, along with flashes of the romantic with bolder, edgier details. Metallics were also a new focus for the brand, seen in micro shorts and trousers, and paired with pretty tops to balance things out. Finer touches such as golden beads, delicate ruffles and thin dress straps also helped set it apart.

Valentino
Zendaya, Naomi Campbell and Florence Pugh were among the celebrities sitting front row at Valentino. A completely alternative take following the brand’s last fuchsia-only collection, Pierpaolo Piccioli used this show to focus on glitzy pieces and impeccably crafted design, resulting in a real blend of maximalism and minimalism. One moment it was a metallic fringed dress, the next, a sleek blazer style maxi-coat.

Chanel
Set against a cinematic backdrop of the film “Last Year in Marienbad'' (1961), and with Kristen Stewart as its muse, Chanel’s SS23 show was all about modern elegance. Inspired by ‘the class and freedom of Gabrielle Chanel’, creative director Virginie Viard presented new mix of silhouettes and styles, all of which celebrated the brand’s signatures – tweed, a monochrome colour palette and its typically refined aesthetic.
THE TRENDS
Crochet
It's no surprise this summertime favourite is being reprised by designers ready for next season. Zimmerman, Chanel, Ellie Saab and Isabel Marant all presented more refined and delicate takes on crochet compared to the chunkier, earthier fabrics seen during summer 2022.
Metallics
Metallics are everywhere right now, and Isabel Marant, Zimmerman and Chanel prove it’s here to stay. Typically reserved for party season, we’re excited to see the trend reimagined for the warmer season via micro shorts, deeper molten shades and subtle prints.
Polka Dots
This simple but stylish trend has made a modern comeback on the runways of Chanel, YSL and Rohn. We predict that come SS23, the trend will take a more maximal route for dresses, skirts and shirting and there’s likely room for expansion into bags and outwear, too.

THE VIRAL MOMENTS
Paris had its fair share of viral moments, many of which involved iconic A-listers. Whether you see these stand-out moments as captivating or gimmick-y, one thing’s for sure – they got us talking…
VIP’s At YSL
While the show was a standout, the VIP guests definitely pulled focus. Kate Moss, Zoe Kravitz and Hailey Bieber were all on our best-dressed list.
Cher At Balmain
A surprise appearance by Cher was the perfect finale to Oliver Rousteing’s show. Strutting down the runway to her own song, the star also wore a befitting metallic bodysuit.
Bella Hadid’s Spray-On Dress At Coperini
During Coperini’s show, the supermodel turned heads as she stood centre stage, waiting for the brand’s founders to spray the finale dress onto her semi-naked body.
Victoria Beckham’s Emotional Close At Her Show
After her first show in Paris – a long-held dream for the designer – Victoria finished her show by thanking her audience, clearly overcome with emotion.
THE STREET STYLE
Dresses were big news at PFW – many of them styled up with edgier touches, including leather jackets to boots. And many nodded to the upcoming season by incorporating lighter hues to freshen up their autumnal looks. Dopamine dressing was also alive and well, while camel once again proved itself to be the new black.
